5/22/21 : Minor League Roundup


Triple A East League - Syracuse 9 ( 3-13 ) Lehigh Valley 8 ( 10-6 )


Summary :


The Iron Pigs scored a first inning run on two fielder errors by Syracuse.


Syracuse scored single runs in the second and third innings, one on a home run.


The Mets scored three times in the fourth inning highlighted by a two run home run and a single run in the fifth.


3B Luke Williams tripled in the fifth inning and scored on a single by CF Roman Quinn.


Williams doubled in the seventh inning, he scored on a double by SS Ruben Tejada. Another run scored in the inning on a wild pitch.


1B Darick Hall hit a two run home run scoring C Edgar Cabral ( doubled ) in the eighth inning. Corneluis Randolph hit a pinch hit home run to tie the game at seven apiece.


Syracuse re-took the lead in their half of the eighth inning by scoring a run with a single, double and sac fly.


RF Ryan Cordell hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to re-tie the game.


Syracuse scored the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch after putting runners on first and third on a walk and single.


On The Hill :

CF Roman Quinn, on a rehab assignment, had two hits. Luke Williams doubled, tripled and scored three runs. SS Ruben Tejada had two hits including a double. Darick Hall, Ryan Cordell and Corneluis Randolph each homered.


Double A NorthEast League - Akron 11 ( 11-5 ) Reading 0 ( 3-14 )


Summary :


Akron jumped out early with five first inning runs on a couple walks, double and two run dinger. They scored six in the fourth inning to seal the route.


On The Hill :


RH Francisco Morales - 1 IP, 5 R- 4 earned, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K - 35 pitches - 18 strikes

Notes :


LHP Nick Lackney was promoted to Reading from Clearwater before the game.


High A East League - Jersey Shore 3 (8-9 ) Winston Salem 2 ( 8-9 ) - ten innings


Summary :


Winston Salem’s first hit of the game came in the seventh inning and it was a two run home run by Luis Meises.


C Herbert Iser hit an absolute bomb over the right field wall hitting it off the billboards far beyond the fence to lead off the bottom of the seventh for Jersey Shore.


DH Keaton Greenwalt hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game in the eighth inning.


SS Jonathan Guzman delivered the walk off game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning ... a bases loaded single for the win !


On The Hill :


RH Noah Skirrow - 4 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s - 55 pitches - 33 strikes - FB sat 90-92 ... touched 94 ... slider and changeup


RH Kevin Gowdy - 3 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - FB 93-97 ... 47 pitches - 27 strikes ... curve and split finger changeup - great to see Kevin’s Velo up - really lively heater today, it’s the highest velocity I’ve seen him produce. Retired first seven batters he faced.


RH Victor Santos - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K- 19 pitches - 13 strikes 90-93 FB, slider, curve & strong changeup


At Bat :


2B Bryson Stott drew three walks giving him 19 for the season. 1B Vito Friscia doubled and walked twice.


C Herbert Iser & DH Keaton Greenwalt homered ... each delivered their fifth hit of the season with the HR also being their second home run of the year 😳.


Notes :

SS Jonathan Guzman made a great stop on a hard hit grounder in the ninth inning and flipped the ball to 2B Bryson Stott who made a spectacular turn with a runner bearing in on him to complete a 6-4-3 double play ... Stott threw the ball sidearmed to first to avoid the runner. 👏🤛


Low A SouthEast League - Clearwater 5 ( 8-9 ) Dunedin 3 ( 6-11 )

Summary :


1B Rixon Wingrove doubled to score C Abrahan Gutierrez & DH Baron Radcliff ( each walked ) in the second inning. LF Ben Pelletier singled to score Wingrove.


Dunedin scored twice in the fourth inning.


CF Johan Rojas led off the fifth inning with a walk, he promptly stole second and third base and scored on a sac fly by 2B Luis Garcia. SS Casey Martin walked and stole second base, he scored on a single by Gutierrez.


Dunedin scored a run in the top of the ninth inning.


On The Hill :


RH Mick Abel - 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s - 35 pitches - 23 strikes - FB 94-97 ... sat 96 ... also threw curve, change and slider - great outing for the young man 👍


RH Dylan Castaneda - 4 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 56 pitches - 38 strikes - strong outing as well.

RH Carlos Francisco - 2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 29 pitches - 17 strikes.


At Bat :


CF Johan Rojas - 2 hits, 1BB, 2 stolen bases and 1 run scored. 1B Rixon Wingrove - double and two RBIs


Notes :


Before the game RHP Brendan Bell was promoted to the Threshers roster from extended spring training.
