Troy Schreffler went 2 for 3 (single & HR), Gustavo Sosa went 2 for 2 (single & double) and Marco Soto had two singles in four at bats. Yemal Flores and Junior Marin each doubled. Lou Helmig and Raylin Heredia singled.
Starlyn Castillo started on the mound and pitched three innings (two runs - one earned, one hit, three walks and four strikeouts). Seth Nightingale pitched a scoreless inning (one walk, two K’s), Nathan Karaffa went three innings (one run, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts) and Josh Bortka pitched a perfect frame (two strikeouts). Eric Garcia went one third of an inning (one run, one hit, two walks) and Ty Collins two thirds of the same frame (no runs,hits or walks, one strikeout).
The American Athletic Conference championship baseball tournament is being held at BayCare Ball Park this week with games beginning tomorrow and contests slated thru the weekend. The collegians are using Ashburn and Schmidt fields at the complex for their practices. The Phillies Extended Spring Training games this week are all road contests.
League Honors :
Drew Ellis (Lehigh Valley) was named player of the week for the International League and Bryan Rincon (Clearwater) was named player of the week for the Florida State League.
