5/7/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 8 (17-15) Syracuse 4 (15-18)

Syracuse, NY - NBT Bank Stadium


Summary :


Syracuse scored a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Tim Locastro.


Jake Cave walked in the fourth inning, he scored on a double by Weston Wilson. Wilson went to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly by Scott Kingery.


John Hicks and Esteban Quiroz singled in the fifth, Hicks scored on a double by Jake Cave.  Weston Wilson hit a three run home run.  Simon Muzziotti went back to back yard.


Mark Vientos homered for Syracuse in the sixth inning.


Esteban Quiroz walked in the seventh, went to third on a single by Jake Cave and scored on a sac fly by Weston Wilson.


Tim Locastro hit a two run home run for Syracuse in the 8th inning.


On the Hill :


Ranger Suarez pitched five innings allowing one run on four hits and no walks, he struck out three batters. Louis Head and Jeremy Walker pitched scoreless innings, Trey Cobb stranded two inherited runners in the eighth inning by retiring the only two batters he faced in a high leverage situation, one by strikeout.  Erich Uelmen tossed a scoreless ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Jake Cave went 3 for 4 and also walked, he doubled and scored twice.  Weston Wilson had two knocks (double & HR) and a walk, he scored twice and had five RBIs.  Jordan Qsar doubled.  Simon Muzziotti homered.

Eastern League ( AA) -  Hartford 5 (13-12) Reading 4 (10-16)

Hartford, CT - Dunkin’ Park


Summary :


Madison Stokes tripled in the third inning and scored on a single by Johan Rojas.


Zac Veen doubled to score a run for Hartford in the bottom of the third.


Reading scored three runs in the seventh inning, Max McDowell and Garrett Whitley singled, Madison Stokes doubled to score two runs.  Johan Rojas doubled to score Stokes.


Hartford scored four in the bottom of the seventh, a walk and two singles loaded the bases, Bladimir Restituto singled to score a run.  A walk plated another, Hunter Goodman singled to score two more.


On the Hill :


Nick Nelson started and went five innings allowing one run on three hits and no walks, he struck out five batters. Cristian Hernandez pitched a scoreless frame.  Zach Linginfelter pitched a perfect 8th inning with two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Johan Rojas had two hits (single & double) and three RBIs, he also stole his 8th base of the season.  Max McDowell had three knocks (singles).  Madison Stokes doubled and tripled.  Matt Kroon and Garrett Whitley each had two singles.

Summary :


Kendall Simmons homered in the second inning.


Angel Aponte singled for Hickory in the third, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Marcus Smith.


Kendall Simmons singled in the fourth inning, Rixon Wingrove was hit by a pitch, Jared Carr walked to load the bases.  Casey Martin singled to score Simmons.  Arturo De Freitas hit a sac fly to score Wingrove.


Yenci Peña doubled to score Marcus Smith (walked) for Hickory in the fifth inning.


On the Hill :


Victor Vargas made his first appearance of the season as the starter, he went two innings.  Alex Garbrick threw a scoreless third inning, Carlos Francisco pitched two innings, Rodolfo Sanchez went two scoreless.  Tommy McCollum pitched a scoreless 8th inning.  Tristan Garnett finished it with a scoreless ninth posting two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Kendall Simmons went 3 for 4 (two singles & HR) and scored twice.  Wilfredo Flores had two hits (single & double).

“The BlueClaws tied a club record with six home runs on Saturday night at Hickory (they also hit six home runs July 25, 2021 at Winston-Salem including two by Jhailyn Ortiz and DJ Stewart).  On Saturday, the BlueClaws had two home runs from Rixon Wingrove (his second multi-home run game of the year and fourth of his career) and two by Kendall Simmons (second multi-home run game of his career after having one with Clearwater last year). Summary :


Ricardo Rosario singled in the first inning, stole second and scored on a single by Jordan Dissin.


Lakeland scored a run in the third on a fielding error, stolen base and RBI single by Dom Johnson.  Manuel Sequera hit a long solo home run for them in the fourth.


Clearwater plated five in the bottom of the fourth , Otto Kemp was hit by a pitch, Freylin Minyety singled.  They both scored on a double by Cade Fergus.  Erick Brito singled to score Fergus. Jordan Dissin was hit by a pitch and Jordan Viars walked.  Felix Reyes singled to score two runs.


Lakeland scored five in the seventh inning.  They loaded the bases on a walk, double (Moises Valero) and hit batter.  Two runs scored on bases loaded walks.  Alvaro Gonzalez singled to score two more.  The fifth run scored on a wild pitch.


For the fourth consecutive game Clearwater won on a walkoff.  Jordan Viars singled, Emaarion Boyd pinch ran for him.  Felix Reyes doubled, Bryan Rincon pinch ran for him.  Otto Kemp walked.  Freylin Minyety hit a sac fly to score Boyd.  Cade Fergus

doubled to score Rincon with the game winner!


On the Hill :


Estibenzon Jimenez started and pitched well - four innings, two runs, one earned on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Andrew Bellatti tossed a scoreless fifth inning, Eduar Segovia threw a scoreless sixth. Wesley Moore pitched the final two innings allowing one hit and no walks, he struck out two batters.


At the Bat :


Cade Fergus had three hits (two doubles and single) and three RBIs. Ricardo Rosario, Freylin Minyety and Felix Reyes had two hits each.  Reyes doubled.
