Stopped by the Complex this morning and watched a few rounds of batting practice by the fellas in Extended Spring Training ( XST ).
Some notes - Jordan Viars looks healthy again ( incurred an ankle sprain in ST camp ) and was hammering the baseball, seems like he’s ready to get into game action this week ( XST has games tomorrow in Lakeland vs Tigers, on the 13th in Dunedin vs Jays and on Saturday morning at the Complex vs the Jays ) - we shall see.
Saw Mickey Moniak shagging fly balls during BP on Roberts Field, with the Phillies on the west coast he’s here to continue his rehab, will continue treatment and eventually get into games - presumably XST action to begin with. Uziel Viloria is back in camp, he had a temporary call up with the Threshers but has returned. Erick Brito appears to have stayed with the Threshers.
Chris Burke had a solid round of BP - he started to swing it really well last week in the scrimmages I saw. Felix Reyes continues to impress me, has big power and the ball makes that “special sound” when he squares it up. He struggled in his time with the Threshers earlier this season but if he can unlock a consistent contact rate the bat speed is definitely there.
