6/1/24 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 8 (22-32) Columbus 6 (21-34) - ten innings

Columbus, OH - Huntington Park


Summary :


A walk, single, double and sacrifice fly scored two runs for Columbus in the first inning.


Weston Wilson walked in the 2nd inning, stole second, went to third on a fielding error and scored on a ground out by Simon Muzziotti.


Darick Hall singled in the 4th inning and scored on a home run by Weston Wilson.


Esteban Quiroz doubled in the 6th inning and scored on a triple by Simon Muzziotti.  Cal Stevenson tripled to score Muzziotti.  Jim Haley doubled to score Stevenson.


Two singles and a throwing error (Pitcher Tyler Phillips) scored a run for Columbus in the bottom of the sixth. A ground out scored another run.  Raynel Delgado then hit a home run.  A walk, hit batter and single scored a run to tie the game.


The contest went into extra innings tied at six.


Cal Stevenson (intentional) and Jim Haley walked in the 10th to load the bases with placed runner Esteban Quiroz.  David Dahl singled to score two runs.


At Bat : 8 R, 10 H, 6 BB, 15 K’s


Jim Haley hit two doubles, Simon Muzziotti had two hits (single & triple).  David Dahl had two hits (singles), a walk and two RBIs. Esteban Quiroz doubled.  Cal Stevenson tripled.   Weston Wilson homered.


On The Hill :  6 R, 10 H, 4 BB, 9 K’s


Tyler Phillips pitched five innings - 4 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 4 K’s - 91 pitches - 62 strikes.  Jonah Dipoto pitched one inning - 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 26 pitches - 11 strikes - one inherited runner scored.  Taylor Lehman pitched a perfect inning - 1 K - 13 pitches - 7 strikes.  Nick Nelson pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 13 pitches - 10 strikes.  Max Lazar finished it - 2 perfect IP - 2 K’s - 28 pitches - 21 strikes.


Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 6 (21-29) Hartford 1 (26-23)

Hartford, CT - Dunkin Park


Summary :


Robert Moore homered in the 5th inning.


Two doubles scored a run for Hartford in the bottom of the 5th.


Carlos De La Cruz reached on an error in the 6th inning,  Bryce Ball walked and William Simoneit singled.  Robert Moore hit a grand slam home run!   Marcus Lee Sang singled, stole second and scored on a single by Carson Taylor.


On The Hill : 1 R, 10 H, 1 BB, 11 K’s


Matt Osterberg pitched six innings - 1 R, 9 H, 0 BB, 7 K’s - 85 pitches - 63 strikes.  Carlos Francisco pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 28 pitches - 20 strikes.  Matt Russell pitched a scoreless inning - 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 11 pitches - 9 strikes.  Tyler McKay pitched a perfect ninth inning - 10 pitches - 7 strikes.


At Bat : 6 R, 9 H, 6 BB, 10 K’s


Robert Moore hit two home runs including a grand slam (five RBIs).  Kendall Simmons and Carson Taylor each had two hits (singles). Taylor and Carlos De La Cruz each walked twice.


South Atlantic League ( High A )  - Jersey Shore 11 (28-22) Brooklyn 5 (26-24)

Lakewood, NJ - Shoretown Ballpark


Summary :


Otto Kemp walked in the first inning and scored on a double by Leandro Pineda.  Andrick Nava doubled to score Pineda.  Hendry Mendez singled to score Nava. Erick Brito walked, William Bergolla doubled to score two runs.


Justin Crawford singled in the 2nd inning and stole second base.  Otto Kemp walked.  Leandro Pineda doubled to score two runs.  Andrick Nava singled to send Pineda to third base, a sacrifice fly by Hendry Mendez scored Pineda.


William Bergolla singled in the third inning and scored on a home run by Cade Fergus.


Otto Kemp tripled in the 5th inning and scored on a single by Leandro Pineda.


Brooklyn scored a run in the 6th on a double and three walks.  They scored another in the 7th on a single, double and ground out.


Three singles, a walk and passed ball scored three Brooklyn runs in the 8th inning.


On The Hill : 5 R, 6 H, 5 BB, 13 K’s


Trey Dillard opened and pitched two perfect innings - 3 K’s - 27 pitches - 17 strikes.  Mason Ronan pitched two perfect frames - 3 K’s - 29 pitches - 19 strikes.  Jordi Martinez pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 20 pitches - 11 strikes.  Andrew Baker pitched an inning - 1 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s - 26 pitches - 12 strikes.  Jack Dallas threw an inning - 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 20 pitches - 15 strikes.  Alex Rao pitched an inning - 3 R - two earned, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 28 pitches - 17 strikes. Gunner Mayer pitched a perfect ninth inning - 1 K - 14 pitches - 9 strikes.


At Bat : 11 R, 15 H, 4 BB, 6 K’s


Leandro Pineda had four hits (three singles & double) with four RBIs.  Otto Kemp (single & triple, two walks), William Bergolla (single & double - two RBIs), Andrick Nava (single & double  - RBI) and Cade Fergus (double & HR - two RBIs) each had two hits.

Coming into tonight thr BlueClaws were 13-2 in ShoreTown since May 1st, including 2-2 this week.  They are 18-7 at home on the season and their .720 home winning percentage is 6th best in the minors.  Their 2.68 home ERA is the 9th best in the minors (Hillsboro, A+ Diamondbacks is at 2.01). The BlueClaws are 9-15 on the road with a 5.15 team ERA


Florida State League ( Low A )  - Lakeland 2 (32-18) Clearwater 0 (34-16)

Summary :


A single and double scored a run for Lakeland in the 5th inning.


A walk, stolen base and single scored a run for Lakeland in the 7th inning.

Mavis Graves pitched five innings - 1 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 7 K’s - 86 pitches - 55 strikes.  Josh Bortka went two innings - 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 38 pitches - 22 strikes.  Jose Peña Jr pitched two scoreless innings - 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s 🔥👀 - 28 pitches - 20 strikes.

Pierce Bennett had the only hit (single).  Aidan Miller and Dakota Kotowski each walked twice.

Bryson Ware has hit three of his season’s four home runs at BayCare Ballpark in 2024.  Last night Devin Saltiban tied his best on-base streak of the season by reaching safely for the ninth-consecutive game. The win was Clearwater’s first as the Beach Dogs this season. It was the third walkoff win of the season for Clearwater.  Saul Teran has factored in to the decision

in 10 of his 11 appearances this year. Jordan Viars scored the tying run in two of the three Clearwater walkoffs this season. The 1:06 rain delay was the first such delay in a game this season.

Summary :


A walk and two singles scored a run for the Yankees in the second inning.


Junior Marin was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and Yemil Rosario walked.  Yemal Flores hit a no doubt about it three run home run over the left field fence 💣👀.

Maxwell Hernandez pitched four innings - 1 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s.  Luis Gonzalez went two innings - 0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s.  Josbel Garcia closed - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

Yemal Flores hit a three run home run.  Juan Villavicencio walked twice.

Lehigh Valley : RHP Freddy Tarnok claimed off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, reinstated from the 60-day IL and optioned to Lehigh Valley (from Philadelphia). Tarnok will report to LHV on Tuesday (6/4).  INF Nick Podkul reinstated from the Development List.  OF/INF Matt Kroon placed on the 7-day IL with a Right Quad Strain.
