6/10/23 : Minor League Roundup


Clearwater clinches first half Division Title!


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley (32-28) Syracuse (23-38)- doubleheader

Syracuse, NY - NBT Bank Stadium


Game One : Lehigh Valley 5 Syracuse 1


Summary :


Syracuse scored a run in the second inning on three singles.


Jake Cave hit a two run home run in the third inning scoring Esteban Quiroz (singled) in front of him.


In the top of the seventh Scott Kingery and Esteban Quiroz hit back to back home runs.  Jim Haley reached on a fielders choice and scored on a Darick Hall double hit high off the right center field wall.


On the Hill :


Christopher Sanchez was very good, six innings, one run, seven hits, one walk and four strikeouts - 96 pitches, 63 strikes. Jace Vines finished, one inning, no runs, one hit, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Jake Cave and Esteban Quiroz each had two hits (double & HR).  Simon Muzziotti tripled.  Darick Hall doubled.



Game Two :  Lehigh Valley 8 Syracuse 5


Summary :


Dustin Peterson homered in the first inning.  After two walks put runners on base Simon Muzziotti singled to score a run, another walk followed and then Vimael Machin reached base on an error on which two runs scored.


DJ Stewart hit a two run home run for Syracuse in the bottom of the first inning.


Syracuse scored three in the second on a walk and three singles.


The IronPigs loaded the bases in the 4th inning on a walk to Scott Kingery and singles by Vimael Machin and Weston Wilson.

Jake Cave hit a sac fly to score a run.  Jim Haley doubled to score two runs.


Scott Kingery homered in the sixth inning.


On the Hill :


TJ Zeuch went three innings as the starter.  Jesus Cruz pitched two scoreless innings. Jake Jewell and Andrew Bellatti pitched an inning each to finish it.


At the Bat :


Dustin Peterson had two hits (double & HR), Scott Kingery homered and walked.  Simon Muzziotti had two hits(single & double).  Jim Haley doubled and had two RBIs.



Eastern League ( AA) -  Reading (21-34)  Binghamton (27-28) - doubleheader

Reading, PA - FirstEnergy Stadium


Game One : Binghamton 4 Reading 1 - 8 innings


Summary :


Oliver Dunn and Ethan Wilson walked in the 4th inning, Dunn scored on a single by McCarthy Tatum.


Luke Ritter singled in the seventh inning for Binghamton’s first hit.  Jose Peroza doubled to send Ritter to third.  A sac fly scored him.


The game went into extra innings tied at one.


Matt Rudick hit a three run home run for Binghamton in the eighth inning.


On the Hill :


Griff McGarry was excellent, no runs, no hits, two walks and eight strikeouts in five innings - 79 pitches, 47 strikes.


At the Bat :


Ethan Wilson doubled.  The team was held to three hits.



Game Two : Binghamton 8 Reading 5 - 8 innings


Summary :


Jose Peroza homered for Binghamton in the second inning.


Madison Stokes homered in the third inning.  Johan Rojas singled with a bunt, he scored on a double by Oliver Dunn.


Madison Stokes walked in the 5th inning, Carlos De La Cruz singled, they both scored on a triple by Johan Rojas.  Oliver Dunn

singled to score Rojas.


Binghamton scored four runs in the 6th inning a walk, three singles, a double and sac fly.


The game went into extra innings tied at five.


Binghamton scored three runs in the 8th inning with two singles and a double.


On the Hill :


David Parkinson went five and one third innings, five runs charged, five hits, two walks and six strikeouts.  He pitched better than his line total, was very solid thru five innings.


At the Bat :


Johan Rojas had three hits (two singles & triple), scored twice and drove in two.  Madison Stokes had two hits (single & HR) as did Oliver Dunn (single & double, two RBIs)

Matt Kroon joins the party of hot R-Phils at the plate lately. South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Hudson Valley 4 (32-24) Jersey Shore 0 (29-26)

Summary :


Hudson Valley scored two runs in the first inning on a single and two doubles.


HV scored a run in the 8th inning on consecutive doubles by Antonio Gomez and Spencer Henson.  They scored a run in the 9th inning on a triple by Marcos Cabrera and RBI single by Luis Santos.


On the Hill :


Jordan Fowler went five innings, two runs, six hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Carlos Francisco pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Tommy McCollum went one and two third innings. Cam Wynne retired the only batter he faced.  Orion Kerkering pitched the ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Casey Martin had two hits. The team had three total.

First Half Division Championship Clincher!!


Summary :


Bryan Rincon led off the game with a home run.  Emaarion Boyd doubled, stole third base (his 33rd) and later scored on a wild pitch.


Rubel Cespedes hit a two run home run for Fort Myers in the bottom of the first inning.


Fort Myers scored a run in the 4th inning on a RBI triple by Maddux Houghton.


Otto Kemp walked in the sixth inning and scored on a triple by Felix Reyes.


Jordan Dissin walked and Otto Kemp and Jordan Viars singled to load the bases in the 8th inning. Felix Reyes walked to score a run.  Ricardo Rosario singled to score two runs.


Gabriel Rincones Jr walked in the 9th, stole second (his 24th) and scored on a single by Otto Kemp.  Jordan Viars singled and Felix Reyes singled to score Kemp.


Fort Myers scored a ninth inning run on a single & double.


On the Hill :


Alex McFarlane went five innings, three runs, four hits, three walks, eight strikeouts.  Jonh Henriquez was good in relief, two and two third innings, no runs, no hits, one hit batter, two walks and one strikeout.  Jack Dallas stranded two inherited runners in the 8th inning, he went one and one third innings to finish it.


At the Bat :


Bryan Rincon singled, homered and walked.  Emaarion Boyd had two hits including a double.  Otto Kemp had two singles and walked three times, Felix Reyes singled and tripled, posted three RBIs. Jordan Viars had two singles.  Gabriel Rincones Jr walked twice.  Every batter in the lineup reached base.

Florida Complex League


Phillies 7 (4-1) Tigers 6 (2-3) - 11 innings

@ Carpenter Complex, Clearwater, FL


Summary :


Leonardo Rondon walked in the third inning, stole second and scored on a Hao Yu Lee single. Junior Marin doubled, Matt Alifano walked, a wild pitch allowed Lee to score. Yemal Flores doubled to score two runs.


The Phillies scored two runs in the 4th inning on a Hao Yu Lee double.


The Tigers plated four in the 5th, Mario Feliciano doubled to score two (two batters had walked).  Four consecutive walks scored two runs.


A Tigers run scored in the 6th on a single, walk and RBI double by Iverson Leonardo.  The inning ended on a great play at the plate, relay throws from right fielder Raylin Heredia to second baseman Hao Yu Lee who one hopped it to catcher Jackie Pertuz  who snagged the throw slightly up the line and applied the tag!


The Tigers tied the game in the ninth on a single, walk, sac bunt and throwing error.


The Phillies scored the game winner in the bottom of the 11th as placed runner Lou Helmig advanced to third base on a wild pitch and then scored on another wild pitch.


On the Hill :


Danny Mejia went three and two thirds scoreless, Eric Garcia recorded two outs and stranded two inherited runners to pitch out of the fifth inning jam. Guisseppe Velasquez impressed with two scoreless/hitless innings, three strikeouts.  Nathan Karaffa had another strong outing going two frames, one unearned run and Josh Bortka pitched a scoreless 11th inning to post his second win.


At the Bat :


Hao Yu Lee had two hits (single & double), three RBIs and a walk.  Junior Marin had two doubles.  Raylin Heredia, Yemal Flores and Matt Alifano each doubled.



FCL Schedule Change :


Monday, June 12 – Was originally scheduled Phillies @ Tigers. This is now changed to the Tigers @ Phillies.

Summary :


Juan Villavicencio doubled in the bottom of the first inning, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a ground out.


Victor Cardoza tripled in the second inning and scored on a single by Dervin Andrade.


Juan Villavicencio hit a two run home run in the 4th inning.


The Nationals scored a run in the seventh inning.


On the Hill :


Five pitchers pitched in the contest, Adilson Peralta went three and two third scoreless innings, Juan Melendez threw two scoreless, Claudio Gatier went two frames and Ezequiel Ventura pitched an inning.


At the Bat :


Three players had two hits apiece; Juan Villavicencio (double & HR), Andres Hernandez (two singles) and Victor Cardoza (single & triple).



Phillies White 18 (4-1) Arizona Black 2 (2-3)

@ D’Backs Academy


Summary :


Luis Pelegrín doubled to score a run in the third inning, Darium Gutierrez singled to score another in the fourth.


Jerffson Peña doubled in a run in the 6th, Angel Mata & Darium Gutierrez  had RBI singles, Andres Tabares an RBI sac fly.   Two more scored on a wild pitch and bases loaded walk.


Fernando Hernandez doubled to score a run in the seventh, Starlyn Caba had an RBI single, two more scored on a wild pitch and bases loaded walk.


An 8th inning fielding error allowed the Phillies 13th run to score, Aroon Escobar doubled to score two more. Jerffson Peña hit a three run home run.


The D’Backs scored two runs in the ninth inning.


On the Hill :


Pedro Reyes started and went four scoreless, Kleyderve Andrade pitched two perfect frames, six strikeouts. Eduardo Fernandez pitched two perfect frames, three strikeouts.  Gregory Lebron finished with an inning’s work.


At the Bat :


The team had 15 hits and drew 13 walks.  Jerffson Peña went 3 for 5 (double, triple & HR) with five RBIs, three runs scored and a walk. Aroon Escobar, Angel Mata, Darium Gutierrez and Fernando Hernandez each had two hits.  Hernandez, Escobar, Mata and Luis Pelegrín each doubled. Escobar walked three times, scored twice and had three RBIs.



System Transactions :


Lehigh Valley : RHP T.J. Zeuch reinstated from the 7-Day Injured List,  C Vito Frisicaplaced on the Development List.


Reading : Pedro Martinez has been returned from his minor league rehab assignment and re-placed on the 7-day IL


Clearwater : 1B Cole Moore has been reinstated from the development list, 1B Chad Castillo has been placed on the seven-day injured list.
