I’ve decided to condense the daily minor league roundup going forward - I will no longer include the scoring summary portion but will continue to include a link to the box scores of each game. I don’t think many were interested in the scoring description portion as in this “day and age” most only want the highlights. Each of the affiliates write game recaps if interested in the details - they are available on the team websites. I must confess that I no longer can attest to watching each game every evening, I do watch them but now more in a click back and forth manner - most of what I will now post is primarily box score recaps.

We will be moving from Clearwater permanently in early July - at that point I will discontinue my writing efforts from an in person view as that will no longer exist. To be honest it never really seemed to be widely appreciated anyways as many of the things I read on-line are inaccurate comments or wavering opinions as to the abilities of developing players. It’s seemingly much easier to opine based upon second hand information, guess that’s what is available to most. It’s always been my approach to highlight what a player can do or is doing from what I’ve seen in person rather than speculate on what they cannot. Baseball data is a great tool of performance measurement but in my opinion it is often too heavily relied upon in the general public views found on social media or in “expert” written narratives. The teams themselves definitely use data but it’s more to identify weaknesses to strengthen, to enable strengths to a player’s and the team’s advantage and to project potential. Coaching and development isn’t just about numbers, it’s about building personal value, attitude and trust that positive elements can be expanded upon and that hurdles can be overcome. I’ve never heard a coach tell a player they can’t do something but rather how they possible can. That’s always been my view as well. In a world seemingly built more on negativity and belittling others perhaps we should all take more of a coaches view - just sayin.

The pro baseball season is a long one - the quantity of games that are played during a baseball season are far more than in any other pro sport. “Great” teams in April thru June are less often “in this day and age” the same clubs that get the glory in the fall tournament. Yet the daily interest is what builds to the crescendo of the tournament - it’s the industry of the business. The cynical fan shines thru during the lulls, the optimist when W’s are a regularity and Philly as a fanbase generally wears their emotions on their sleeve in full public throttle with cynicism often the louder vocal display. Being away from that the past ten years while living in Florida has opened up a different perspective to this lifelong fan - getting just a glimpse of how it all works and getting to know a few of the folks involved in various aspects of the process made it more personal. Many folks are quick to criticize unaware of the underlying facts. Just sayin there’s generally a story beneath the story - if ya care to find and listen to it.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
