6/28/2020 : “60” man player pools

Yesterday all 30 major league clubs submitted their adjusted player rosters for what some termed “Summer Camp”. While most of us expected that each team would list 60 names that’s far from what happened.

One of the roster rules in the recently issued MLB Operations Manual states that once a player is listed on the player pool, if they are subsequently removed ( for reasons other than COVID 19 illness or injury ) they cannot be re-added to the list. The rule behooved teams to keep open slots to potentially be filled later rather than add a player now and risk losing them if a roster adjustment is needed in the future ... there’s also the concern of waivers, etc. Any player placed on the 60 man roster that’s not on the big league 40 man crew would also be subject to an “exposure” transaction if moved off the player pool list ... rather than take that risk at this time many teams chose rather to just leave spots open.

So ... some prospects that might have been added to the initial list weren’t but rather have been put on stand by for future considerations of being added ... 😳🤦‍♂️...

Attached is the Phillies initial roster along with other clubs that have announced their lists to date with a focus on ex Phillies on each list ... subsequent to the posting the Phillies added RHP Anthony Swarzak to the pool being it to 54 players
