Reading infielder Keaton Anthony and Jersey Shore right-handed pitcher Saul Teranhave been named Phillies Minor League Hitter and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for May.

 

Anthony, 23, slashed .385/.442/.603 (1.045 OPS), going 30-for-78 with 11 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run, 12 RBI and seven walks in 22 games with double-A Reading during the month. Among Eastern League hitters, the Fort Wayne, Ind., native ranked second in batting average and doubles, third in on-base percentage and extra-base hits (14), fourth in slugging percentage and OPS, tied for fifth in hits and sixth in total bases (47). On May 7 at Binghamton, the right-handed hitter drove in a career-high five runs and tied his career high with four hits. Anthony has reached base safely in his last 18 games dating back to May 11, and his on-base streak is the third-longest in the EL this season. He signed with the Phillies as a non-drafted free agent on July 17, 2023, and was signed by Justin Munson.


The 23-year-old Teran, who was promoted to high-A Jersey Shore on June 2, went 1-1 with a 1.64 ERA (2 ER, 11.0 IP), three saves, 16 strikeouts, one walk and a 0.82 WHIP in eight relief appearances for single-A Clearwater in May. From the beginning of the season through the end of May, the righty had the following rankings among Florida State League relievers (min. 15 appearances): first in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.33) and strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (15.50), second in ERA (1.00), third in WHIP (0.89), fourth in strikeouts (31) and eighth in opponent’s batting average (.203). This season, 13 of the Venezuela native’s 15 outings have been scoreless. Teran signed with the Phillies as an amateur free agent on Feb. 13, 2022, and was signed by William Mota.
