7/1/24 : Minor League Roundup

Eastern League ( AA ) - Somerset 7 (6-1, 38-38) Reading 6 (2-5, 33-42)

TD Bank Ballpark, Bridgewater, NJ

Summary :

Three singles scored two runs for Somerset in the first inning.  They scored a run in the second on a double, single and double steal.

Andrick Nava doubled in the 5th inning and scored on a double by Marcus Lee Sang.  Carlos De La Cruz singled to score Lee Sang.

Trevor Schwecke reached on catcher’s interference in the 6th inning, Josh Breaux walked.  Kendall Simmons doubled to score them both.  Andrick Nava and Ethan Wilson walked.  Marcus Lee Sang grounded out to score Simmons.

Somerset scored two runs with two outs in the 8th inning on two singles and a double.

Marcus Lee Sang singled in the ninth, stole second base, went to third on a ground out and scored on an infield single by Trevor Schwecke.

After a leadoff double began the bottom of the 9th inning, with two outs Somerset tied the score on a wild pitch.  Two doubles then scored the walk off game winning run.

On The Hill : 7 R, 14 H, 1 BB, 8 K’s

Lachlan Wells pitched six innings - 3 R - 2 earned, 7 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 80 pitches - 58 strikes.  Eury Ramos pitched two innings - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s - 27 pitches - 18 strikes.  Daniel Harper pitched an inning - 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 18 pitches - 10 strikes.  Carlos Francisco pitched 2/3 of an inning - 2 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 24 pitches - 16 strikes.

At Bat : 6 R, 7 H, 6 BB, 13 K’s

Carlos De La Cruz (singles) and Marcus Lee Sang (single & double) each had two hits.  Andrick Nava and Kendall Simmons doubled.  Lee Sang and Simmons each had two RBIs.  Otto Kemp and Andrick Nava walked twice.

The Fightin Phils ultimately finished the month of June with a 13-12 record, marking their first month an over .500 record this season. It marks the first month that Reading has had a .500 or better record since going 13-12 in August of last season. The Fightin Phils hit .253 in June, which ranked fifth in the Eastern League. On the mound, Reading posted a 3.50 ERA, which was third in the league for the month. - Media Notes

South Atlantic League ( High A )  - Wilmington 7 (3-6, 34-41) Jersey Shore 3 (3-7, 41-35)

Frawley Stadium, Wilmington, DE

Summary :

Matt Suggs homered in the second inning.  Three consecutive singles scored a run.

Erick Brito doubled in the third inning, he scored on a line drive home run over the right field wall by Justin Crawford.  I believe that’s the first home run I’ve seen him pull - smoked it!

Jared McKenzie hit a two run home run for Wilmington in the 5th inning.

Phillip Glasser hit a two run home run for Wilmington in the 6th inning.  They scored a run in the 8th on a walk, single and throwing error (catcher Jordan Dissin).

Troy Schreffler singled in the ninth, Keaton Anthony doubled.  Justin Crawford singled to score a run.

On The Hill : 7 R, 11 H, 3 BB, 6 K’s

Braeden Fausnaught pitched 5.2 innings - 6 R, 10 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s - 97 pitches - 65 strikes.  Dominic Pipkin retired all four batters he faced in 1.1 innings - all on ground outs - 15 pitches - 10 strikes.   Andrew Walling pitched an inning - 1 unearned R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 19 pitches - 11 strikes.

At Bat : 3 R, 11 H, 4 BB, 4 K’s

Justin Crawford (two singles & HR - three RBIs) had three hits. Leandro Pineda (single & double & walk) and Troy Schreffler (two singles) each had two hits. Erick Brito and Keaton Anthony doubled.  Hendry Mendez singled and walked twice.

Summary :

Bryson Ware walked, he went to third on a single by Jared Thomas.  Kehden Hettiger hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Two doubles and a single scored two runs for Dunedin in the third inning.

A walk, hit batter and RBI single by some fella named Joey Votto scored a run for Dunedin on the fifth inning.  Votto is playing for Dunedin on rehab assignment.  Another single scored a second run in the inning.

Pierce Bennett walked in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a double by Bryson Ware.

Dunedin plated three runs in the top of the 6th on a walk, single, double, wild pitch, walk and ground out.

Kehden Hettiger homered in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Avery Owusu-Asiedu homered in the 8th inning.

Two walks, a hit batter and single scored two runs for Dunedin in the ninth.

On The Hill : 9 R, 10 H, 7 BB, 11 K’s

Mavis Graves pitched 4.2 innings - 3 R, 6 H, 1 HB, 2 BB, 7 K’s - 87 pitches - 54 strikes.  Brandon Beckel pitched 1/3 of an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 1 HB, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 12 pitches - 6 strikes.  Chase Hopewell pitched two innings - 3 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 1 K - 40 pitches - 24 strikes.  Jonh Henriquez pitched two innings - 2 R - 1 earned, 1 H, 1 HB, 2 BB, 3 K’s - 37 pitches - 21 strikes.

At Bat : 4 R, 5 H, 12 BB, 10 K’s

Bryson Ware doubled and walked three times.  Kehden Hettiger and Avery Owusu-Asiedu homered and walked.  Devin Saltiban drew three walks and Pierce Bennett walked twice.

Florida Complex League - Tigers 6 (23-18) Phillies 4 (23-17)

Carpenter Complex, Clearwater, FL - Roberts Field

Summary :

Alirio Ferrebus singled to score Eduardo Tait (reached on a fielders choice) in the first inning.

A walk and three singles scored two runs for the Tigers in the second inning.   They scored another run in the third inning on a single and triple.

Jerffson Pena singled in the 5th inning, Nolan Beltran and Starlyn Caba walked.  Eduardo Tait hit a sacrifice fly to score Pena.

Alirio Ferrebus singled to score a run.

A hit batter and double scored a run for the Tigers in the sixth.  A walk, balk and single scored two more.

Juan Villavicencio walked in the sixth, advanced on a single by Jerffson Pena and scored on a single by Starlyn Caba.

On The Hill :  6 R, 8 H, 7 BB, 11 K’s

Juan Amarante pitched four innings - 3 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 3 K’s.  Claudio Gatier pitched 1.2 innings - 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K’s.  Kleyderve Andrade pitched 2.1 innings - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s.  Jake Eddington pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

Defense :

Eduardo Tait has a canon behind the plate as a catcher, he threw out a runner at second in the ninth I thought he had no chance on - absolute seed right on the bag to get the out! 👀

At Bat : 4 R, 8 H, 6 BB, 10 K’s

Jerffson Pena and Alirio Ferrebus each had two hits (singles).  Starlyn Caba singled, walked and stole a base. Nolan Beltran walked twice.  Junior Marin tripled.  Tjayy Walton was 1 for 4 with a single on rehab assignment from Clearwater.

Dominican Summer League - NYY Bombers 6 (12-8) Phillies Red 3 (6-15)

Yankees Complex

Summary :

Maylerson Casanova walked in the top of the third, he scored on a double by Esterling Rodriguez.

Francisco Vilorio hit a three run home run for the Bombers in the third inning.  They scored a run in the sixth on three walks and a ground out and two in the seventh on a single and two doubles.

Yadimir Fuentes reached on an error in the 8th inning, Meylin De Leon singled.  Samuel Estevez singled to score a run.  David Freitas grounded out to score another.

On The Hill :  6 R, 9 H, 5 BB, 8 K’s

Raymon Rosario pitched five innings - 3 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s.  Henry Ramirez pitched an inning - 1 unearned R, 0 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s.

Gerardo Lopez pitched two innings - 2 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s.

At Bat : 3 R, 5 H, 7 BB, 9 K’s

Meylin De Leon had two hits (singles). Esterling Rodriguez doubled.

Dominican Summer League - NYY Yankees 9 (9-12)  Phillies White 2 (7-14)

Phillies  Complex

Summary :

Two singles, a walk, hit batter and wild pitch scored two runs for the Yankees in the second inning.  They scored seven runs in the fourth inning on six walks, a single, double, triple with an error thrown in as well along with two balks and a wild pitch.

Jose Familia was hit by a pitch in the 6th inning, he scored on a triple by Josueth Quinonez.  A wild pitch scored a run.

On The Hill : 9 R, 7 H, 9 BB, 9 K’s

Jeffrey German pitched 3.2 innings - 8 R - 3 earned, 5 H, 4 BB, 3 K’s.  Edwin Castillo faced four batters without recording an out - 1 R, 1 H, 3 BB.  Jorge Guzman went 3.1 innings - 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s. Cristian Diaz went two perfect innings - 1 K.

At Bat : 2 R, 2 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s

Josueth Quinonez tripled.  Jose Familia was hit by a pitch and walked twice.

System Transactions :

Lehigh Valley : RHP Max Castillo (#22) transferred to LHV from Reading

Reading : RHP Andrew Baker (0) transferred from Jersey Shore. C/1B Josh Breuax (48) has been signed to a minor league contract and he has been added to the roster (retroactive to 6/30). 1B Bryce Ball has been released (retroactive to 6/30). C Arturo De Freitas (10) reinstated from the Development List. RHP Konnor Ash placed on the Development List.

Jersey Shore : RHP Paxton Thompson has been transferred from the Clearwater Threshers. He will wear #18

FCL : OF Jorge Garcia  returned from minor league rehab assignment, reinstated from the 60-day IL, and transferred from Single-A Clearwater (retroactive to 6/29). C Jorge Mendez has been traded to the Colorado Rockies for Cash Considerations (retroactive to 6/29).
