7/10/21 : Florida Complex League Today

Tigers West 6 ( 4-3 ) Phillies 4 ( 3-5 )

The Tigers scored twice in the second inning and once in the third to jump out to an early lead.

The Phillies scored in the fourth … Ben Pelletier ( singled ), Andrik Nava ( doubled ) … Jose Cedeno grounded out to second base to score Pelletier.

Roberto Campos hit a three run home run for the Tigers in the seventh inning.

Wilson Valdez tripled off the right center field wall in the 7th inning, he scored on a ground out by Leandro Pineda.

The Phillies rallied to score four in the ninth inning on four walks and a groundout . Jamari Baylor drew a bases loaded walk to plate one and Jose Cedeno grounded out to score another. The game ended on a bang bang play at first base on a groundout by Oscar Gonzalez where it appeared that the first baseman was pulled off the bag by the throw by the shortstop but the umpire had a different opinion 🤷‍♂️.

Today we saw the professional debut of LHP Corey Phelan … very smooth, quiet and clean delivery for the 19 year old … he also showed great poise in working out of a two on one out jam caused by some shaky fielding behind him. He pitched out of it by getting a groundout and fly out … went two scoreless innings.

Also saw RHP Sam Jacobsak in person for the first time … very impressive outing … six batters faced - all retired - three K’s.

Didn’t have a speed gun reading but his ball had plenty of zip and also showed a quick breaking off speed offering. What was even cooler was how his rehab pitching teammates made their way over to the stands to watch him perform. That’s a custom that dates back to Coach Ray Burris’s days as rehab coach from what I remember that when a guy would take the hill for the first few times after working to get back his rehab mates came to cheer him on. It continued today with Trevor Bettencourt, Ben Brown, Erik Miller and Jordan Fowler coming into the stands to watch Sam toss. That’s great to see in my humble opinion.

On The Hill :

RH Tom Sutera - 3 IP, 3 R - 2 earned, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s

RH Sam Jacobsak - 2 perfect innings - 3 K’s

RH DJ Jefferson - 2 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s - showed good FB today

LH Corey Phelan - 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K

At Bat :

Wilson Valdez had two hits including a triple. He also walked and scored twice. Edward Barboza hit two doubles and Andrik Nava doubled.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
