7/13/21 : Phillies 12th Round Draft Pick



The Phillies selected TJ Rumfield , a 21 year old third baseman from Virginia Tech in the 12th round of the draft today.


Here’s a bit about him. He spent two years at Texas Tech before transferring to VT


Rumfield comes from a baseball family. His father Toby Rumfield was a Cincinnati Reds second-round draft pick out of high school and spent 14 years in pro ball, including four years and more than 400 games at Triple-A. His uncle, Brock Rumfield, was a two-time MLB draftee and two-year pro who played at McLennan, Texas and Lubbock Christian University.


Was one of two Hokies to start all 52 games, making starts at first base and designated hitter … Tied for the team lead with 37 RBIs … Led the team with 26 walks … Ranked second on the team in batting average (.315), hits (64), doubles (12) and home runs (7; tie) … Scored the fourth most runs (35) for the Hokies ... His 10-game hitting streak marked one of two double-digit streaks achieved by the Hokies ... Went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs against Georgia Tech (April 16) ... Batted 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double at Wake Forest (April 11) ... Hit a home run, registered two RBIs and scored two runs during his 2-for-3 outing at Wake Forest (April 10) ... Collected three RBIs and scored a run during his 2-for-4 game at Pit (March 27) ... Slugged two home runs, totaled five RBIs and four runs during his 3-for-5 performance against Radford (Feb. 23).
