The Phillies selected Ty Collins Jr , a 20 year old RHP from Glendale College in California in the 16th round of the draft today.
Here’s his Baseball Factory scouting profile.
Ty is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect. In the OF, Ty makes the routine play and has good footwork to the ball. He has a strong arm and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Ty starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and has good rotation with his lower half. He keeps a quiet head, attacks the inside part of the ball, and drives the ball to all fields. On the bump, Ty has an athletic delivery with good tempo and he works at a good pace. His fastball has late life, his slider has late break, and his curveball has good depth. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south in his delivery. Ty has tremendous upside and we hope to see his progress in the future.
Ty Collins is a RHP/SS with a 6-3 160 lb. frame from Los Angeles, CA who attends St. John Bosco. Tall and lithe athletic build, body projects well, could really benefit from some additional strength. Loose and fast arm from a high 3/4's arm slot, deep plunge in back can throw off his timing, gets very good plane to his pitches, spins off hard to the first base side on release. Fastball up to 92 mph, mostly straight with severe plane when down in the zone. Curveball was his best pitch frequently, gets hard 11/5 biting action with power behind it when everything is on time. Has lots of mechanical issues to work through but has a high ceiling arm and is very athletic. 6.46 runner, gets rid of the ball very quickly in the outfield with athletic footwork and good carry on his throws. Left handed hitter, short upper body swing with some uphill swing, stays inside the ball, will improve as a hitter with additional strength. - Perfect Game Profile
