In addition to the five un-drafted free agents I previously wrote about two more players have committed to signing with the Phillies. They will need to pass physicals before officially inking contracts.
LHP Cal Higgins is 23 years old and played his 2026 collegiate season for the University of Texas where he appeared in eleven games - all in relief. He’s from Kearney, Nebraska and graduated from Kearney High School. He was part of a state championship team as a sophomore. He initially attended Iowa Western (Juco) before transferring to Western Kentucky for three seasons and earning his undergraduate degree. He had one season left in eligibility and enrolled at Texas pursuing a graduate certificate in communication and leadership. Cal is 6’4” 240 - he was pitching for the West Virginia Black Bears in the MLB Draft League where he appeared in five games before committing to sign with the Phillies.
1B/OF Jack Hopko is 22 years old and played collegiate baseball for four seasons at the University of Rhode Island where he posted a .293/.388/.543 slash line and .931 OPS in 191 games (802 PA’s) with 43 home runs and 176 RBIs. The 6’0” 190 pound left handed hitter and thrower is from Endwell, New York and graduated from Maine-Endwell High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. At Rhode Island he majored in Business Administration.
