7/19/26 : Phillies new minor league addition - outfielder Wuilfredo Antunez
Twenty four year old outfielder Wuilfredo Antunez has signed a two year minor league contract with the Phillies on 7/17/26. The native of Venezuela has been released by the Guardians on 7/12/26.
Antunez was playing at the AA level (Akron) with the Guardians - last season he posted a combined (High A & AA) slash line of .275/.335/.521 with an .856 OPS including 26 doubles, 7 triples, 18 home runs and 67 RBIs. He received a non-roster invite to this year’s big league spring camp with Cleveland. This season at Akron (AA) he had recorded 10 doubles and 12 home runs with 41 RBIs yet also had a .195/.255/.391 slash line in 281 plate appearances. With the Phillies he’s been assigned to High A Jersey Shore and has played in two games thus far.
He was listed by MLB as one of the Guardians top 30 prospects in 2023 - this is what they wrote “One of the last players signed in the Guardians' 2018-19 international class, Antunez turned pro for $10,000 out of Venezuela in April 2019. He played 15 games in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League that year, then lost 2020 to the pandemic and didn't see any game action in 2021 while dealing with leg injuries. He got back on the diamond last season and impressed scouts with his all-around tools but hurt his leg again on an awkward slide shortly after arriving in Single-A in late July.
Antunez has the potential to hit for both average and power. He possesses a quick left-handed stroke and works deep counts looking for pitches he can drive. While he's aggressive, he also makes a lot of hard contact, shows the ability to drive the ball in the air and draws walks.
Antunez likes to use his plus speed on the bases, swiping 13 bases in his first 41 pro games and exuding 20-20 upside. With his quickness, instincts and solid arm strength, he can provide quality defense at all three outfield spots. He has spent most of his early pro career in center field and should be able to remain there.”
