7/20/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Lehigh Valley 9 (11-6, 47-43) Toledo 2 (6-12, 39-53)

Toledo, OH - Fifth Third Field


Summary :


Tyler Nevin doubled for Toledo in the second inning, advanced on a ground out to third and scored on a passed ball.


Weston Wilson tied the score with his 23rd home run of the season in the seventh inning.  It tied him for the league lead in home runs.


The IronPigs loaded the bases in the ninth - Rafael Marchan singled, Esteban Quiroz was hit by a pitch and Weston Wilson walked.  Jake Cave singled to score a run.  A bases loaded walk to Nick Podkul scored a run.  Dustin Peterson singled to score two.  Another run scored on a sac fly by Jim Haley.  Scott Kingery hit a double to score three runs.


Toledo scored a run in the ninth on two singles


On the Hill :


Drew Hutchinson pitched six innings, one run, three hits, two walks, eight strikeouts.  Taylor Lehman, Ben Bowden and Connor Brogdon each threw an inning to close it out.


At the Bat :


Weston Wilson had three hits (two singles & HR) and a walk.  Rafael Marchan had three hits (singles).  Jake Cave and Scott Kingery each had two hits (single & double).


Note :


Jake Cave played first base in tonight’s game.  It marked the first time in his professional career he has played the position.

Summary :


Matt Kroon doubled to lead off the game, he scored on a single by Carlos De La Cruz.


Cody Roberts homered in the second inning.


Altoona scored three runs in the sixth inning on two walks, a double and two singles.


Mason Martin led off the 8th inning for Altoona with a home run.


Cody Roberts reached on a two base fielding error in the ninth, he scored on a single by Carlos De La Cruz


On the Hill :


Mick Abel had a strong outing, five innings, no runs, two hits, three walks and three strikeouts.  Carlos Francisco struggled, three runs on three hits and two walks in two thirds of an inning.  Cristian Hernandez went an inning and a third, no runs or hits, one walk.  Dominic Pipkin pitched an inning, one run, two hits, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Pedro Martinez had two hits (single & double) as did Carlos De La Cruz (two singles).  Matt Kroon doubled, Cody Roberts homered.

Summary :


Michael Turner hit a three run home run for Winston Salem in the first inning.


Nick Ward doubled in the second inning and scored on a home run by Anthony Quirion.


Winston Salem scored six runs in the third inning on five singles, two walks, a sac fly and fielding error.


Nick Ward singled in the fourth inning, moved up on a walk to Jared Carr and scored on a single by Erick Brito. Wilfredo Flores singled to score Carr.


A double, fielding error and sac fly scored a run for WS in the fourth inning.  They scored a run in the 5th inning as well.


Erick Brito singled in the 6th inning and scored on a triple by Marcus Lee Sang.  He scored on a wild pitch.


Colson Montgomery hit a two run home run for WS in the seventh.


Erick Brito singled in the 8th inning, Hao Yu Lee homered to score two. Marcus Lee Sang singled and scored on a triple by Gabriel Rincones Jr.  Rixon Wingrove doubled to score Rincones Jr.  Nick Ward doubled to score Wingrove.


On the Hill :


Five pitchers were used.  Tristan Garnett went one and two thirds scoreless and Tommy McCollum pitched a perfect inning.


At the Bat :


Nick Ward had four hits (two singles & two doubles).  Erick Brito and Marcus Lee Sang had three hits apiece.  Rixon Wingrove doubled. Lee Sang and Gabriel Rincones Jr tripled and Anthony Quirion and Hao Yu Lee homered.  Wilfredo Flores had two hits.

Summary :


Cole Moore walked in the fifth inning and scored on a double by Ryan Leitch.


The game was completed in one hour and 58 minutes.


On the Hill :


Jean Cabrera pitched six shutout innings, seven hits, one walk, five strikeouts. Daniel Harper pitched two innings, no hits, one walk, two strikeouts.  Danny Wilkinson finished the shutout by pitching the ninth, one hit, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Cole Moore, Ryan Leitch and Troy Schreffler each had two hits.  Leitch doubled.

Summary :


A walk, single and balk scored a first inning run for the Blue Jays.


A single, walk and single scored a Jays run in the fourth.


Raylin Heredia doubled in the sixth inning, Yhoswar Garcia singled.  Heredia then scored on a balk. Kendall Simmons doubled to score Garcia.  Dakota Kotowski walked, Diego  Gonzalez doubled to score a run. Jorge Mendez doubled to score two more.  A hit batter, walk and wild pitch scored a sixth run.


Yhoswar Garcia doubled in the seventh, Kendall Simmons was hit by a pitch.  They both scored on a single by Dakota Kotowski and fielding error by the Jays right fielder.  Jorge Mendez hit a sac fly to score Kotowski.


Albert Rodriguez walked in the 8th, advanced on a single by Raylin Heredia and scored on a double by Yhoswar Garcia.


On the Hill :


Mavis Graves went three and two third innings, two runs, three hits, two walks and six strikeouts.  Giussepe Velasquez pitched two and a third scoreless innings, no hits, one walk, three strikeouts.  Drew Garrett, Luis Alcala and Saul Teran each threw a scoreless frame.


At the Bat :


Yhoswar Garcia had three hits (two doubles and a single), he scored twice and had an RBI.  Raylin Heredia and Dakota Kotowski each had two hits.  Kotowski, Kendall Simmons, Jorge Mendez, Diego  Gonzalez and Raylin Heredia each doubled. Mendez had three RBIs.



Dominican Summer League :


Blue Jays 9 (16-15) Phillies Red 0 (17-14) - seven innings

Summary :


The Blue Jays scored four runs in the first inning on a double, two walks, a sac fly, hit batter, walk, wild pitch and a second double.  They scored three in the second on three singles, a walk, sac fly, fielding error and wild pitch.


Two singles, a balk, walk and fielding error scored two Jays runs in the fifth inning.


On the Hill :


The Phillies used four pitchers, Josbel Garcia had the most success, two innings, no runs, one hit, one walk.


At the Bat :


The team was held to one hit - a double by Alirio Ferrebus.



Giants Orange 6 (17-14) Phillies White 5 (23-8)

Summary :


The Phillies scored four runs in the second inning - Guillermo Rosario reached on an error,  Jarol Martinez singled. Darium Gutierrez doubled to score a run.  Leny Carela singled to score a run.  Two groundouts then scored two runs.


The Giants plated six in the fourth inning - three hit batters, a walk, two singles and two doubles did the damage.


Starlyn Caba singled in the seventh, moved to second on a sac bunt, stole third base and scored on a sac fly by Angel Mata.


On the Hill :


Three pitchers were used, Luis Avila pitched three innings, no runs, one hit, no walks, five strikeouts.  John Sosa pitched two innings, no hits, one walk, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Jerffson Peña and Leny Carela had two hits each.  Carela and Darium Gutierrez doubled.

Multiple new draftees and free agent position player signings participated in fielding practice on Schmidt Field today - Lou Albrecht, Kehden Hettinger,  TayShaun Walton, Bryson Ware, Avery Owusa-Asiedu, Aidan Miller, Devin Saltiban, Trent Farquhar, Keaton Anthony, Zach Arnold, A.J. Shaver and Jared Thomas.

Lehigh Valley - RHP Jace Vines placed on the 7-Day Injured List.


Reading - RHP Jake Thompson released.  Reinstated RHP Mick Abel from the Development List.

Placed RHP Andrew Schultz on the Development List.


Jersey Shore - LHP Jordan Fowler transferred from the Development List to the 7-day IL. 


Clearwater - Transferred RHP Alex Rao from the seven-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

RHP Shaun Anderson has been signed to a minor league contract.  The 28 year old was the 3rd round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2016 draft from the University of Florida and has pitched in 63 major league games with the Giants, Twins, Orioles, Padres and Blue Jays.  This season he pitched for the Kia Tigers in the Korean Baseball Organization making 14 starts (seventy-nine IP).  He was released by Kia on July 6th.
