7/26/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 14 (14-8, 50-45) Syracuse 11 (7-15, 40-56)

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Simon Muzziotti reached on a fielding error in the first inning, he scored on Weston Wilson’s 25th home run of the season.


Jordan Qsar walked in the third inning and went to third on a double by Aramis Garcia. They both scored on a single by Esteban Quiroz.   Cal Stevenson walked.  Simon Muzziotti singled to score a run.  Kody Clemens singled to score another. Weston Wilson, Darick Hall and Jordan Qsar walked which scored two more runs.  Aramis Garcia hit a grand slam home run.


Four walks, a wild pitch and a three run home run by Luke Voit scored five runs for Syracuse in the fifth inning.


Luke Ritter homered for Syracuse in the 6th inning.  They scored five runs in the seventh on five walks and three singles.


Darick Hall and Jordan Qsar walked in the bottom of the 7th, Aramis Garcia singled to score Hall.  Esteban Quiroz singled to score Qsar.


On the Hill :


Drew Hutchinson pitched four innings plus, after walking the first two batters in the fifth he was lifted - four innings, three runs, one hit, five walks, seven strikeouts.  Taylor Lehman pitched an inning, two runs, one hit, two walks, one strikeout.  Noah Song pitched one and one third innings, five runs, three hits, three walks and two strikeouts.  Ben Bowden pitched two thirds of an inning.  Luis Ortiz pitched a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Connor Brogdon pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to close it out - looked really strong this evening.


At the Bat :


Aramis Garcia had four hits (two singles, double, grand slam HR), he posted five RBIs and scored twice. Esteban Quiroz had two hits (single & double).  Weston Wilson homered.



Note :


Watching AAA level games like this one called by the ABS is painful, the strike zone seems far too tight, tonight the two teams walked 23 batters between them - I’d rather hear complaints about umpires than watch batters walk around the bases - just sayin.

Eastern League ( AA) - Reading (11-11, 39-51) Binghamton (8-14, 43-48) - doubleheader

Reading, PA - FirstEnergy Stadium


Game One :  Binghamton 5 Reading 3


Summary :


Completion of suspended game from yesterday - The two teams played a scoreless first inning before the game went into rain delay before the second frame began.  Play resumed about an hour later.   They played the top of the second and one out in the bottom of the frame before going into rain delay again and the game was suspended - picked up from there today.


Cam Cannon homered in the third inning.


Agustin Ruiz homered for Binghamton in the seventh inning, their first hit in the game.


Cam Cannon singled in the seventh, went to second when Madison Stokes walked and scored on a double by Carlos De La Cruz.


Two walks and a singled scored a run for Binghamton in the 8th inning.  Rowdey Jordan then hit a three run home run for them.


Cam Cannon hit his second home run of the game in the ninth inning.


On the Hill :


Tyler Phillips pitched two innings, no runs or hits, one walk and two strikeouts on Tuesday before rain suspended the game.  Adam Leverett went three innings, no runs or hits, two walks, four strikeouts.  Cristian Hernandez pitched two innings, one run, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts.  Dominic Pipkin was tagged for four runs on two hits and two walks in an inning of work.  Andrew Baker pitched a scoreless inning, one walk.


At the Bat :


Cam Cannon had three hits (single & two HR’s).   Carlos De La Cruz had two knocks (single & double).



Game Two : Reading 2 Binghamton 1 - eight innings


Summary :


A walk and two hit batters loaded the bases for Binghamton in the first inning, a wild pitch scored a run.


Cody Roberts doubled in the sixth inning, Carlos De La Cruz doubled to score him.


The game went into extra innings tied at one apiece.


Pedro Martinez was the placed runner for Reading in the bottom of the 8th.  Cody Roberts put down a sacrifice bunt to move him to third base. Both Madison Stokes and Carlos De La Cruz were intentionally walked to load the bases.  With two outs a walk to Jhailyn Ortiz scored Martinez with the walk off game winning run!


On the Hill :


Josh Hendrickson went five innings, one run, no hits, five walks, two strikeouts.  Matt Seelinger pitched a scoreless frame. Orion Kerkering pitched an inning, no runs, two hits, no walks, two strikeouts.  Carlos Francisco pitched a scoreless eighth inning stranding the placed runner.


At the Bat :


Carlos De La Cruz hit two doubles. Cody Roberts doubled.

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore (11-15, 46-45) Aberdeen (17-8, 49-40) - doubleheader

Game One - Aberdeen 4 Jersey Shore 2 (11:05 AM start )


Summary :


Aberdeen scored two runs in the third inning on a two run tater by Max Wagner.   They scored a run in the fourth on two doubles.


Kendall Simmons homered to lead off the fourth inning.  Nick Ward was hit by a pitch, he later scored on an errant pick off throw by the pitcher along with an errant throw by Aberdeen’s right fielder.


Aberdeen scored a run in the fifth inning on a double, stolen base and ground out.


On the Hill :


Gabriel Cotto went four innings, three runs, five hits, no walks, three strikeouts. Jack Dallas pitched two innings, one run, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts.  Tristan Garnett threw a perfect frame, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Kendall Simmons homered, the team was held to four hits in total.



Game Two - Jersey Shore 3 Aberdeen 2


Summary :


Hao Yu Lee singled in the first inning and scored on a double by Gabriel Rincones Jr.


Marcus Lee Sang tripled over the center fielder’s head in the third inning and scored on a single by Gabriel Rincones Jr.


A walk, single, stolen base and throwing error scored a run for Aberdeen in the fourth, a single scored another run and tied the game.


Erick Brito reached on a fielding error in the seventh inning, Hao Yu Lee singled and with two outs Kendall Simmons walked to load the bases. Gabriel Rincones Jr singled to score Brito for the walk-off win!


On the Hill :


Gunner Mayer went four and a third innings, two runs, five hits, three walks, three strikeouts. Jordi Martinez retired the only two batters he faced.  Andrew Walling made his BlueClaws debut by tossing a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Matt Russell pitched a scoreless frame, one hit, one walk.


At the Bat :


Gabriel Rincones Jr had three hits (two singles & double) and three RBIs. Hao Yu Lee had two hits.  Marcus Lee Sang tripled.



Florida State League ( Low A ) - Jupiter (14-13, 49-44) Clearwater (18-9, 62-30) - doubleheader

Jupiter, FL - The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches


Game One : Clearwater 5  Jupiter 3 - eight innings


Summary :


Jupiter scored a first inning run on a walk, ground out and single.  Harrison Spohn homered for them in the fifth inning.


Bryan Rincon walked to lead off the seventh inning, he scored on a home run by Otto Kemp.


Troy Schreffler was the placed runner to begin the 8th inning, he went to third on a ground out.  Emaarion Boyd walked and stole second base.  Felix Reyes singled to score them both.  Bryan Rincon doubled and Otto Kemp walked.  William Bergolla grounded out and Reyes scored.


Jupiter scored the placed runner in the bottom of the 8th with a balk advancement followed by a ground out.


On the Hill :


Sam Aldegheri pitched six innings, two runs, three hits, two walks, two strikeouts.  Jonh Henriquez pitched the final two innings, one unearned runs, one hit, two walks, no strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Otto Kemp had two hits (single & HR) and a walk, he had two RBIs.  Bryan Rincon doubled and walked twice.



Game Two : Jupiter 4 Clearwater 1


Summary :


Five singles and a walk scored four Jupiter runs in the fourth inning.


Cade Fergus homered in the fifth inning.


On the Hill :


Jean Cabrera pitched five innings, four runs, eight hits, one walk, five strikeouts.   Danny Wilkinson pitched a scoreless sixth inning, no hits, two walks, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Matt Alifano had two hits.  Jordan Dissin doubled.  Cade Fergus homered.

Cade Fergus tied his career-high with three hits last night for the third time this year. He tied the Threshers mark for most runs scored in a game with three. Phillies Red 7 (20-16) Orioles Black 3 (16-19) - seven innings

Summary :


Victor Cardoza tripled to lead off the bottom of the first, he then scored on a wild pitch.  Juan Villavicencio and Eduardo Tait were both hit by pitches, they advanced on a wild pitch.  Alirio Ferrebus singled to score Villavicencio.  Jaeden Calderon walked, Renair Manrique singled to score two runs.  Isaac Ramirez grounded out to score another.


The Orioles scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings.  Yirber Ruiz homered for them in the fourth.


Esterling Rodriguez walked in the fifth, he went to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a double by Erick Barria.

Victor Cardoza singled to score Barria.


On the Hill :


Joel Heredia pitched four innings, three runs, four hits, three walks, two strikeouts.  Edwar Chirinos went three innings, no runs, three hits, two walks, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Alirio Ferrebus and Victor Cardoza each had two hits.  Cardoza tripled.  Erick Barria doubled.



Phillies White 9 (28-8) Orioles Orange 4 (21-15) - suspended in bottom of 4th inning - Lightning

Summary :


Jarol Martinez doubled to score a first inning run.


The Orioles scored four runs in the bottom of the first on two walks, two doubles and a triple.


Leny Carela hit a two run double in the second inning, Angel Mata scored a run with a double in the third.  Yemil Rosario hit a grand slam home run in the fourth and Guillermo Rosario posted an RBI single.


The game was suspended in the middle of the 4th inning.
