The trade deadline arrives on Thursday at 6 PM.  Every season expectations of new arrivals and departures consume the industry and the thirty fan bases. I promise myself every year to not get caught up in the hysteria but it’s actually a time of re-energizing interest amongst the marathon of games played in a pro baseball season. Will they or won’t they make a trade, what if they send this fella for that fella and thoughts of like kind consume fan’s minds 🤓.  For the players I assume it’s nerve racking as they await to see where they will finish out the year. That’s a part of the process those who are not involved tend to forget - in no other profession other than sports industry can ya get traded to a new destination without any say in the matter -that’s gotta be a weird feeling indeed.

The Phillies signed 19 of their 20 draft selections this year and added six more new players as signed non-drafted free agents.  They currently have 15 minor league roster spots open (165 “active” player limit) so will need to create ten more openings before the deadline (15 days after each player signed their contract) comes to add the new signees. Perhaps some come with trades but most will be created with releases. It’s another part of the industry that is nerve racking for players.  Since the beginning of the year the Phillies have released 38 minor league players in roster management.  Here’s a list in case you wonder who was released.
