7/6/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Scranton Wilkes Barre 18 (6-2,40-42) Lehigh Valley 2 (4-5, 40-42)

Moosic, PA - PNC Field


Summary :


Weston Wilson homered in the first inning.


SWB scored seven in the 4th inning on three walks, an error, a wild pitch and a couple two run home runs by Jesus Bastidas and Estevan Florial.   They scored three more in the fifth on two singles, a hit batter and double.  Ben Rortvedt hit a home run for them in the sixth.


Rafael Marchan singled in the seventh and scored on a double by Esteban Quiroz.


SWB plated seven runs in the eighth inning against infielders Esteban Quiroz and Jim Haley who each took the mound, they hit two home runs.


On the Hill :


Four pitchers and two infielders (Esteban Quiroz and Jim Haley) pitched during the game, Ben Bowden threw a scoreless frame.


At the Bat :


Kody Clemens had two hits, Cal Stevenson and Esteban Quiroz doubled.  Weston Wilson homered

Summary :


Casey Martin homered in the second inning.


A single and three walks, including one with the bases loaded scored a run for Somerset in the second inning.


Herbert Iser walked in the third inning, went to third on a double by Carlos De La Cruz and scored on a sac fly by Johan Rojas.


Somerset loaded the bases on walks with one out in the fifth inning. A run scored on a passed ball. Reliever Braden Zarbnisky stranded two of the three runners he inherited.


Oliver Dunn walked in the sixth inning, went to third on a double by Jhailyn Ortiz and scored on a sac fly by Ethan Wilson.


On the Hill :


Starter Griff McGarry went four and a third, two runs, one hit, six walks, six strikeouts. Braden Zarbnisky pitched two thirds of an inning, stranded two of three inherited runners.  Orion Kerkering made his AA level debut, same nasty stuff, one scoreless frame, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts. Zach Haake made his Reading debut, two scoreless innings, no hits, one walk and four strikeouts.  Tyler McKay finished it with a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Reading pitchers yielded just two hits to Somerset batters.


At the Bat :


Carlos De La Cruz and Jhailyn Ortiz doubled, Casey Martin homered, Oliver Dunn walked twice.  The team was held to four hits.


Web Gem :


Center fielder Johan Rojas made a great diving catch in the 4th inning.

Summary :


Hudson Valley scored a run in the second inning on three singles.


Marcus Lee Sang doubled in the second inning, walks by Nick Ward and Anthony Quirion loaded the bases.  Two groundouts followed scoring two runs.


Grant Richardson homered for Hudson Valley in the 4th inning.  Rafael Flores homered for them in the fifth.


Marcos Cabrera homered for Hudson Valley in the eighth inning.   They scored another run on a walk and double.


Gabriel Rincones Jr singled in the ninth inning, he scored on a home run by Rixon Wingrove.


On the Hill :


Gunner Mayer started and went two innings, one run, three hits, three walks, four strikeouts.  Tristan Garnett threw a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Four other hurlers pitched, Jason Ruffcorn pitched a scoreless inning. Tommy McCollum went one and two thirds scoreless.


At the Bat :


Gabriel Rincones Jr had two hits (singles), Rixon Wingrove homered.  Marcus Lee Sang doubled.

Coming into tonight’s game “Hao-Yu Lee had hit safey in 11 of his last 12 games (he had a 10 game hitting streak snapped Tuesday over which he was 15-42) and is 16-50 in the current stretch.  Lee had two hits, including the game-winning hit, on Sunday and three hits in the win on Saturday, his 4th and 5th multi-hit games since returning from the IL on June 13th.  He hit his second home run of the season and first since May 4th in the loss on June 25th.  The 20 year old from Taiwan was 15-41 in May before going on the IL. Summary :


Cade Fergus walked in the sixth inning, advanced to third base on a single by Ricardo Rosario and scored on a fielder’s choice ground ball off the bat of Bryan Rincon.


Two singles and a fielding error scored a run for Palm Beach in the seventh inning.


Cole Moore doubled in the bottom of the ninth, William Bergolla was intentionally walked, Ricardo Rosario walked it off with a three run home run!


On the Hill :


Sam Aldegheri continues to shine, five scoreless innings, two hits, one walk, six strikeouts. (Five pitch mix, four seamer, change, slider, curve & sinker).  Jean Cabrera went four innings, one unearned run, three hits, no walks, four strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Ricardo Rosario had two hits (single & three run HR), Jordan Dissin had two singles.  Cade Fergus and Cole Moore doubled.

In last night’s game “Seth Nightingale set a career high with 3.0 innings pitched. Justin Crawford’s homer was the first of his  career. Ricardo Rosario extended his hit streak to six games.  He has driven in seven runs over the course of his streak. Wen Hui Pan tied the mark set by Jonh Henriquez for most strikeouts by a Threshers reliever in 2023 with seven. Summary :


The Tigers scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Josue Briceno.


Gavin Tonkel doubled to lead off the third inning, he scored on a single by Albert Rodriquez.  Raylin Heredia and Kendall Simmons followed with singles, Rodriquez scored.  Heredia then scored from third on a wild pitch.


A triple, hit by pitch,double and a wild pitch scored three Tigers runs in the bottom of the third.


Raylin Heredia tripled in the fifth inning and scored on a sac fly by Kendall Simmons.


The Phillies scored five runs in the eighth inning, Pedro Martinez walked, Ty Penner singled and Jorge Mendez walked to load the bases.  Lou Helmig hit a sac fly to score one, Gavin Tonkel singled to score another.  Albert Rodriquez singled.  Raylin Heredia tripled to score three runs.


Jorge Mendez hit a two run home run in the ninth inning.


With two outs in the top of the ninth the game went into lightning delay.  The game was later called.


On the Hill :


Enrique Segura started and went three and a third, four runs, four hits, two walks, three strikeouts.  Guissepe Velasquez pitched three and two third scoreless innings, two hits, two walks and four strikeouts.  Eric Garcia pitched a scoreless inning, one hit, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Raylin Heredia had three hits and a walk (single, two triples, two runs, three RBIs).  Ty Penner, Gavin Tonkel and Albert Rodriquez each had two hits. Gavin Tonkel doubled, Pedro Martinez tripled.  Jorge Mendez homered. Kendall Simmons had two RBIs.



Dominican Summer League :


Miami 6 (10-13) Phillies Red 3 (13-9)

@ Marlins Training Complex


Summary :


Juan Villavicencio walked in the first inning and scored on a double by Eduardo Tait.


Miami posted two runs in the bottom of the first on a single, double and single.  They scored a run in the second on a hit batter, walk, double steal and passed ball and two in the third on two walks and two singles.


Jaeden Calderon homered in the fourth inning.  Erick Barria doubled in the seventh and scored on a single by Juan Villavicencio.


Two walks, a ground out and wild pitch scored a run for Miami in the eighth inning.


On the Hill :


Four pitchers were used, Jeffrey German threw two scoreless innings in relief, one hit, no walks, two strikeouts. Sixteen year old Pedro Peralta pitched two and two third innings, one run, one hit, one walk and six strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Eduardo Tait, Erick Barria and Jaeden Calderon each had two hits.  Tait and Barria doubled, Calderon homered.



Phillies White 6 (16-6) Guardians 5 (8-14)

Summary :


Yemil Rosario singled in the first inning, advanced to second on a walk and scored on a RBI single by Guillermo Rosario.


Romel Mendez doubled in the third inning and scored on a single by Yemil Rosario.


Guillermo Rosario singled in the fourth inning, advanced to third on a single by Fernando Hernandez and scored on a sac fly by Jose Marchan.


Yemil Rosario singled in the 5th, advanced on a single by Jarol Martinez and later scored on a fielding error.


The Guardians scored five runs in the ninth inning on two singles, a walk, hit batter, triple and ground out.


Leny Carela singled in the bottom of the ninth and advanced to third on a double by Romel Mendez.  Jarol Martinez singled to score them both for the walk off win!


On the Hill :


Danyony Pulido pitched five innings, no runs, three hits, one walk, three strikeouts.  Elicier Bata went two innings, no runs, two hits, no walks, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Yemil Rosario had three hits (singles), scored twice and had an RBI.  Jarol Martinez (two singles & a triple) also had three hits and walked twice. Romel Mendez (two doubles) and Guillermo Rosario each had two hits.

Lehigh Valley : C Aramis Garcia returned from his minor league rehab assignment and reinstated from the 7-day IL.
