8/21/22 : Week Twenty Minor League Review ( 8/15 to 8/21 )

Pitchers of the Week :

RH Andrew Baker - Jersey Shore - two relief appearances - 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 K’s - 58 pitches - 40 strikes - consistent upper 90’s heat, hit 101 mph 😳 and also featured sharp slider - looked great 🔥💪.  Andrew ( 22 yrs old ) was drafted in the 11th round of the 2021 draft from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida.  After a slow start statistically to the season he’s had a very solid month of August ( 2.70 ERA in 7 games - 10 IP - 19 K’s - 3 BB ) which is a follow on to July ( 14 K’s, 2 BB - 7 IP ).  When he’s commanding the zone the “stuff” can be un-hit-able.  When you watch him pitch the velocity certainly stands out but I’m equally impressed with his slider which in itself is a put away pitch.  From my perspective he’s a great candidate for the Arizona Fall League to see how it all plays.  Really like this young man and his game 👍👀.

RH Mick Abel - Reading - 6 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 8 K’s - 89 pitches - 62 strikes - FB 94 to 98 mph - threw it by batters 🔥 - W

RH Andrew Painter - Reading  - 6 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 HB, 8 K’s - 87 pitches - 57 strikes - FB in the 95 to 99 mph range - outstanding outing yet again 🔥

Six starters - Andrew Painter ( REA ), Josh Hendrickson ( JS ), Dominic Pipkin ( JS ), Jordi Martinez ( CW ) , Jeffrey German ( DSL )  and Javier Fuenmayor  ( DSL ) had game stat lines where they threw five or more shutout frames this week.

The Phillies Pitching Phactory continues to churn - check out the list of young hurlers stat lines from the two Dominican teams this week in the footnotes  - in ten combined games ( one was played against each other ) the two clubs yielded an average of just 1.6 runs per game - for Phillies Red four of those runs came against Phillies White - in their other 4 games they allowed just 3 runs ( 0.75 Avg per game ).  Multiple pitchers had strong weeks - good stuff !
