8/25/24 : Minor League Week in Review - 8/19 to 8/25

A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.


 Lehigh Valley :

 

The IronPigs went 3-3 hosting Rochester, they are 59-63 overall and 25-24 in the second half.  Buddy Kennedy was 8 for 20 with two doubles, a triple, home run and seven runs scored.  Jim Haley was 5 for 13 with three doubles, a home run and five RBIs while Scott Kingery was 7 for 19 with a home run and four RBIs during the week.  RHP Seth Johnson pitched five innings on Friday allowing one run on three hits while striking out four batters.  RHP Nick Nelson threw four scoreless innings in relief on Saturday.  RHP Dylan Covey made three scoreless relief appearances (3 IP). RHP’s Yunior Marte (2 IP), Griff McGarry (2 IP) and Michael Mercado (3 IP) each made two scoreless appearances.


Reading : 

 

Reading went 1-5 at Binghamton, they are 52-67 overall and 21-30 in the second half.  Trevor Schwecke was 4 for 11 with two doubles. Marcus Lee Sang was 5 for 17 with a triple, Justin Crawford 6 for 20 with a double and Erick Brito 5 for 17.  Christian McGowan pitched four scoreless innings in his start on Wednesday allowing one unearned run on two hits.  RHP Tommy McCollum made two scoreless appearances (2 IP) as did LHP Andrew Walling (2.1 IP) and LHP Wesley Moore (1.2 IP).  RHP Eiberson Castellano was dominant on Sunday - 6 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 11 K’s.  In four August starts he pitched 22 innings allowing four runs (1.63 ERA) with 32 strikeouts and 5 walks with a 0.87 WHIP. 🔥


Jersey Shore :

 

The BlueClaws went 5-1 at Brooklyn, they are 67-53 overall and 29-25 in the second half.  Infielder Trent Farquhar was 12 for 28 (.429) with three double, a triple and seven runs scored.  Shortstop Aidan Miller was 9 for 20 (.450) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, seven runs scored and seven RBIs.  Outfielder Hendry Mendez was 5 for 9 with a double and triple.  Corner infielder Felix Reyes went 10 for 19 (.526) with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs.  Outfielder Pierce Bennett was 5 for 12 (.417), infielder Bryson Ware 8 for 23 (.348) with two doubles and two triples, outfielder Emaarion Boyd 8 for 24 (.333) with a double, two triples and a home run posting six RBIs and first baseman Keaton Anthony 8 for 27 with a triple, home run and six RBIs.  RHP Mitch Neunborn pitched six innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven batters.  RHP Braydon Tucker threw six innings on Saturday allowing one run on two hits and striking out six.  RHP Casey Steward pitched 5.2 scoreless innings allowing just one hit while striking out seven batters.  Relievers RH Jaydenn Estanista (3 IP), RH Gunner Mayer (2 IP) and RH Wen Hui Pan (2 IP) made two scoreless appearances.  RHP David Buchanan was assigned from Lehigh Valley to make a Sunday start - he pitched seven scoreless frames - four hits and four strikeouts.


Clearwater :

 

The Threshers went 1-5 hosting Dunedin, they are 58-60 overall and 15-37 in the second half.  Outfielder Joel Dragoo went 5 for 12 with two doubles and five walks (.611 OBP in 18 PA’s), infielder Carson DeMartini was 7 for 23 with a double, triple and home run. Shortstop Starlyn Caba 5 for 16 and outfielder John Spikerman 5 for 15 with a .444 OBP in 18 plate appearances.   RHP Micah Ottenbreit pitched six innings on Saturday allowing one run on one hit while striking out eight batters. RHP Titan Hayes (3 IP) and LHP A.J. Wilson (3 IP) made two scoreless relief appearances.


Dominican Summer League  :


The Dominican Summer League regular season ended on Tuesday.  Phillies Red went 1-1 in their final two games and finished the season with a 21-34 record while Phillies White also went 1-1 and finished the year 26-29.  Eighteen year old outfielder Victor Cardoza had an outstanding season - he transferred to Team Red from Team White in late July and posted a .333/.390/.562 slash line with a .952 OPS in 178 overall plate appearances hitting 12 doubles and 7 home runs.   Eighteen year old outfielder Jaeden Calderon had a big year for Team White posting a .429 OBP and .282 batting average in 184 plate appearances.  Seventeen year old outfielder Josueth Quinonez hit .311 for the season with a .397 OBP in 179 plate appearances.


Team Red nineteen year old RHP Brad Pacheco is a name to watch - in five starts he recorded a 1.59 ERA with 23 strikeouts and just three walks in 17 IP, he’s battled back from injuries and illness and is highly regarded.  Seventeen year old RHP Alexander De Los Santos had a strong year - he posted a 2.13 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 38 IP.  For team White nineteen year old RHP Enderson Jean had a 1.96 ERA in 23 IP - all as a reliever in 15 appearances. Twenty year old RHP Hanfermin Vargas finished the year strong - in his  last seven starts (30.2 IP) he recorded a 1.19 ERA. In three August starts he posted a 0.60 ERA in 15 IP. Overall he had a 2.82 ERA in 44.2 IP.


 Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :

 

Multiple players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team.  Side bullpens of individualized length and restrictions (pitch count) were thrown by Lachlan Wells, Andrew Painter, Matt Osterberg Marty Gair and Saul Teran. Live BP sessions were thrown by Matt Osterberg and Tristan Garnett.  Tristan pitched an inning in the Bridge League game on Friday.  Shortstop Bryan Rincon began a rehab assignment with the Threshers.


Bridge League Phillies : 3-2-1 (six games played)


One game played this week, a 3-2 win over the Tigers in Lakeland on 8/23/24.


On The Hill : 2 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 13 K’s


Angel Liranzo - 2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 44 pitches - 24 strikes.  Tristan Garnett - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s - 20 pitches - 14 strikes.  Josbel Garcia - 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 25 pitches - 16 strikes.  Claudio Gatier - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 13 pitches - 9 strikes.  Elicier Bata - 1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 16 pitches - 9 strikes. Adilson Peralta - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 23 pitches - 13 strikes.


At Bat : 3 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 4 K’s


Juan Villavicencio homered.  Ricardo Rosario doubled.  Alirio Ferrebus, Yemil Rosario, Luke Davis and Junior Marin singled. Ricardo Rosario and Luke Davis had RBIs.


Side Bullpens were thrown this week by Marcus Morgan, Erik Ritchie, Luke Gabrysh, Ryan Degges, Reese Dutton, Ryan  Dromboski and Sam Highfill.  Live Bullpens were thrown by Reese Dutton, Ryan Dromboski, Marcus Morgan and Camron Hill.   Sam Highfill, Kyler Carmack and Eli Trop were transferred to the Threshers and each made their official pro debut.


Shown below is the remaining tentative Phillies Bridge League game schedule. On dates where no game is scheduled there will be camp days.  It’s the rainy season in Florida so the schedule is subject to daily changes as are practice sessions.
