8/28/22 : Week Twenty-One Minor League Review ( 8/22 to 8/28 )

Position Players of the Week :


UTL Dalton Guthrie - Lehigh Valley  - 8 for 20 ( .400 ) with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 5 runs scored - has a six game hitting streak ( 12 for 25 - .480 ) - 26 year old has had an outstanding season posting a .291 batting average in 316 AB’s with a .357 OBP in 352 PA’s has 24 doubles, 10 HR, 48 RBIs and 21 stolen bases - .823 OPS for the year - Paul Owens Award worthy numbers !

OF Carlos De La Cruz - Reading - 8 for 20 ( .400 ) with 3 doubles, a home run and three RBIs - he’s 12 for his last 32 ( .375 ) - coming off a Player of the Month award in July while with Jersey Shore, he has started to pick up the pace now at Reading.

OF Baron Radcliff - Jersey Shore - 6 for 17 ( .353 ) with a double, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs - 4 walks - .476 OBP - he’s hitting .328 ( 22 for 67 ) for the month of August with a .416 OBP and has 6 home runs and 18 RBIs during the month.  I asked Baron what he’s adjusted  - “I’ve changed my stance, went back to my college stance from 2019 when I was All-ACC - have gotten shorter and quicker to the ball, very simple swing. No extra movements.”  The big fella has always had a great eye at the plate - the adjustment has boded well this month - let’s hope for continued success - Baron was drafted in the 5th round of the 2020 draft from Georgia Tech.

Pitchers of the Week :


LH Kent Emmanuel -Lehigh Valley - 7 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s - 90 pitches - 55 strikes - was excellent in his start on Thursday - for the month of August he’s posted a 1.54 ERA in 4 starts ( 23 1/3 IP ) and a 0.94 WHIP with 24 K’s and just 3 walks.  The 30 year old was the 2013 3rd round draft selection of the Houston Astros in the 2013 draft from UNC.  He’s an mix and command pitcher with fastball generally sitting in the 91 to 93 mph range.

RH Maxwell Hernandez - DSL Phillies White  -5 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s in playoff game on Friday - fast ball range 90-93 mph,really strong secondaries- especially the change up  - 19 year old from Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic - finished the regular season with a stellar 0.72 ERA in 11 games ( 49 2/3 IP ) with a 0.81 WHIP - led the entire Dominican Summer League in ERA and was second in WHIP for those that qualified for the regular season

2022 season win/loss records :


Lehigh Valley went 4-2 during the week and is 68-55 overall

Reading went 1-5 during the week and is 53-67 overall, 24-27 second half

Jersey Shore went 0-6 during the week and is 44-76 overall, 19-35 second half

Clearwater went 2-4 during the week and is 55-64 overall, 20-34 second half

FCL Phillies went 2-0 during the week and finished the season 26-29

DSL Phillies Red went 0-2 during the week and finished the season 36-23

DSL Phillies White went 5-0 during the week and finished the regular season 40-19 - they are 3-0 in the playoffs


DSL Phillies White won their quarter final playoff series 2-0 vs Tex Blue and are 1-0 in the best of three series with PIT Gold

Catcher Vito Friscia - 5 for 10 ( .500 ) with a double and two RBIs


IF Wendell Rijo - 6 for 18 ( .333 ) with 3 doubles - has a six game hitting streak going ( 8 for 22 - .363 ).  Solid season - 11 HR, 47 RBIs in 300 AB’s


Jersey Shore :


OF Marcus Lee Sang - 5 for 12 ( .417 ) with a triple, RBI and 2 walks - .500 OBP


Clearwater :


OF Emaarion Boyd - 6 for 12 ( .500 ) - 3 for 7 with Threshers and 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs in FCL - has played in 11 games overall and posted a .361 BA in 36 AB’s - .477 OBP in 44 PA’s - has stolen 8 bases in 10mattempts - 19 years old - 11th round draft choice this summer from Batesville, MS - exciting player, quick hands and very fast - exceptional speed

Catcher Jordan Dissin - 2 for 4 - played in 10 games overall and posted a .353 BA in 17 AB’s - .542 OBP in 24 PA’s - 12th round draft selection this summer from Saddleback Junior College in CA - 20 years old

OF Aroon Escobar - 2 for 6 - finished month of August with a .434 OBP - drew 11 walks - 17 year old from Venezuela - .389 OBP for the season in 186 PA’s - big pop in his bat but showed patience - 24 BB, 26 K’s for the year 👀


Catcher Jorge Mendez - 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs - hit .343 for August in 35 AB’s and posted a .425 OBP in 40 PA’s - 19 year old from Venezuela posted a .400 batting average in 90 AB’s for the season with a .491 OBP in 108 PA’s - an OPS of 1.013 - had 8 doubles, 1 HR and 19 RBIs - shared the catching duties with 3 others


DSL Phillies White : 4 games played - 2 were playoff games


SS William Bergolla - 4 for 12 ( .333 ) with a double and 4 RBIs - was 3 for 5 in first playoff game - posted a .392 batting average ( 51 AB’s ) and .500 OBP in 62 PA’s for month of August in the regular season


Catcher Dervin Andrade - 4 for 8 - 3 doubles and an RBI - had a four hit game on 8/23 with 3 doubles - 18 yrs old from Venezuela
