A SOLID SPLIT: The Clearwater Threshers dropped game one of Thursday’s doubleheader 8-2 to the Lakeland Flying Tigers, followed by their first win in Lakeland in over two years when they earned a split with an 11-6 game two win in seven innings. Reece Moroney had three hits, and Victor Cardoza provided an RBI and one run scored with a hand in both of the Threshers’ game one runs. Brad Pacheco fanned six but took the loss in 3,0 innings and Kyler Carmack struck out two in 1.0 shutout frame. In game two, Jack Hopko went 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Tyler Spangler drove in two and Cade Climie scored three times. Twenty three year old outfielder Avery Owusu-Asiedu (Phillies 2023 9th round draft pick) has had an unbelievable month of August for the Amarillo Sod Poodles (Diamondbacks AA affiliate). On August 11th he was promoted from High A - in seven games during the first ten days of the month at that level he hit three home runs with five RBIs. With Amarillo he’s hit eleven more including homering in four consecutive games and five of his last six from 8/22 to 8/28. For the month in 86 at bats Avery has posted a .430/.500/1.012 slash line with 6 doubles, 14 home runs and 33 RBIs scoring 24 runs! An incredible month.
For the season he’s got 16 doubles, 24 home runs, 24 stolen bases and 63 RBIs with a .246/.334/.492 slash line in 433 plate appearances. Avery was traded to Arizona by the Phillies on 12/19/25 for left handed reliever Kyle Backhus.
