ALEX MCFARLANE, ANDERSON ARAUJO AND DANTE NORI EARN ORGANIZATIONAL HONORS FOR THE MONTH OF JULY
Jersey Shore right-handed pitcher Alex McFarlane has been named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July while Dominican Summer League Phillies Red catcher Anderson Araujo and Clearwater outfielder Dante Nori shared Phillies Minor League Hitter of the Month honors.
The 24-year-old McFarlane made four starts for the BlueClaws in July, going 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA (4 ER, 17.0 IP), 23 strikeouts, seven walks, a 0.94 WHIP, .153 opponent’s batting average (9-59) and 33.8 percent strikeout rate (23 SO, 68 TBF). A native of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, McFarlane ranked fifth in opponent’s batting average and tied for sixth in wins and strikeouts in the South Atlantic League during the month (min. 15.0 IP). He also ranked third in strikeout rate among SAL pitchers to face at least 60 batters. On July 23 against Wilmington, the right-hander had his scoreless streak, which began on June 25, end at 18.0 innings. Named the best athlete in the Phillies farm system by Baseball America entering the season, McFarlane was selected by Philadelphia in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB Draft and was signed by Victor Gomez.
Araujo, 17, slashed .373/.431/.814 (1.245 OPS) in 16 games for DSL Phillies Red in July, going 22-for-59 with 17 runs, four doubles, two triples, six home runs, 15 RBI, five walks and four stolen bases. The Venezuela native led the DSL in slugging percentage, ranked second in OPS, tied for second in home runs and total bases (48), tied for third in extra-base hits (12) and 10th in batting average during the month. The right-handed batter’s three-game streak with at least one home run from July 8-12 is tied for the longest such streak in the DSL this season. On July 20, Araujo recorded a catcher caught stealing during his lone inning behind the plate in the DSL All-Star Game. He signed with the Phillies as an amateur free agent on Jan. 15, 2025, and was signed by Franklin Rojas.
