Pitchers of the Week :
RH Mick Abel - Jersey Shore - 6 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 8 K’s - 93 pitches - 61 strikes - the 20 year old has posted 102 strikeouts in 84 IP as he continues to work towards a pre-established season innings target. He’s made 17 starts and has a very respectable 3.64 ERA all the while continuing to learn the pitching craft. Mick can pop the mitt in the upper nineties at will, when coupled with the ongoing development of secondary offerings, mix sequences and location he’s well on track for advancement next spring.
RH Andrew Painter - Jersey Shore - 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 11 K’s - 79 pitches - 56 strikes - just 19 years old in his first full season of professional baseball - he’s shown dominating capabilities - with 109 K’s in 68 1/3 IP he’s also working towards an innings target set for the season. He’s also posted a 1.32 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 16 starts - opponents have hit just .158 against him. The ability to throw an upper nineties fastball consistently that has great movement and often pops 100 mph is his calling card, while he’s not incorporated his secondaries as much there’s a couple plus offerings in the making there as well. An outstanding season for the young man.
RH Jaydenn Estanista - FCL Phillies - 4 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s - another young hurler on the horizon as a power arm - just 20 years old he’s posted a stellar 0.43 ERA in his last nine appearances ( 21 IP ) with 24 K’s. Jaydenn has shown a fastball now sitting consistently in the 94-96 mph range with flashes of upper nineties heat. His delivery is repeatable and the ball has tremendous life and movement out of his hand. While secondaries are still a work in progress the talent is evident as is the work ethic. I’ve got a very good feeling about this young man’s future - he’s not as advanced as others yet but with a 1.11 ERA in 24 1/3 IP this season and a 0.78 WHIP there’s genuine excitement about what’s possible in the future.
