9/12/2020 : Phillies 12 ( 23-20 ) Marlins 6 ( 21-21 )


Didi Gregorius hit a grand slam home run in the first inning scoring Rhys Hoskins ( reached on error ), Bryce Harper ( BB ) and JT Realmuto ( BB ) in front of him.


Bryce Harper led off the third inning with a home run ... a welcome hit for all concerned 😬.


Spencer Howard was cruising along going into the fourth inning. He gave up his first hit in the fourth, followed by a walk and then Brian Anderson hit a three run hole run. Joe Girardi then took the young hurler out with an apparent injury ...


A wild pitch in the fifth inning allowed JT Realmuto to score ( reached on FC & went to third on a single by Gregorius ).


Heath Hembree pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to finish out the fifth inning .

The Phillies loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning but failed to score.


Miami scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on doubles by Jesus Aguilar and Lewis Brinson.


Jean Segura singled with one out in the seventh inning, he went to third base on a single by Alec Bohm. Segura scored on an infield single by Adam Haseley.


Miami scored an unearned run in the seventh inning on a throwing error by JT Realmuto. Jo Jo Romero started the inning and recorded one out ... Brandon Workman finished it out.


Jo Jo Romero went 1 1/3 innings - 2 R - 1 earned, 3 H


Jean Segura singled with two outs in the eighth inning to score Bryce Harper ( doubled ). Alec Bohm doubled to score Didi Gregorius ( BB). Kyle Garlick stroked a double with the bases loaded to clear the bases !


Jesus Aguilar led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a home run against Workman. He recorded one out in the inning before Tommy Hunter relieved him to get the last two outs.


Brandon Workman went 1 painful inning altogether ... 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K.


Adam Morgan worked a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win.

Notes :


The Phillies have now scored 39 runs in the 1st inning this season, second most in MLB behind the Astros (40), who have played two more games. In ten games the Phillies have scored more than one run in the first inning.


Harper’s home run ended an 83 AB streak without a dinger which dated back to 8/22.


Injury Updates


Scott Kingery, Jay Bruce and Roman Quinn all took BP today at Allentown. Roman has had two consecutive days without headaches. Jose Alvarez is down here in Clearwater ... he’s doing light tosses from 60 feet ... is not likely to make it back for the regular season.
