9/16/2020 : Phillies sign two veterans

Things that get announced after I go to sleep 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Last night the Phillies announced they’ve signed veteran first baseman Greg Bird and catcher Jonathan Lucroy to Minor League contracts and have added them to the Alternate training site roster. The signings were obviously insurance acquisitions since Rhys Hoskins and JT Realmuto were recently injured.

Bird is 27 years old and was released by the Texas Rangers on August 11th. He has played in the major leagues with the NY Yankees in 2015, 17,18 and 19 however has struggled both on the field and with injuries. His career batting average in the big leagues is .211 in 611 AB’s.

Lucroy is 34 years old and was released by the Boston Red Sox a couple days ago. He’s played 10 seasons in the major leagues and was an all-star catcher with the Milwaukee Brewers for multiple years however only appeared in one game this season with the Red Sox.

The updated Alternate Training site roster ( as I know it ) is now :
