The Phillies announced today they have acquired RHP Joel Cesar from the Pittsburgh Pirates as the player to be named later in exchange for LHP Austin Davis who was traded to Pittsburgh earlier this season.
Cesar is 24 years old and is from the Dominican Republic. He’s 5’11” 191 and spent the 2019 season at Advanced A Bradenton ( 9 games - 0.73 ERA in 12.1 IP ) and at Double A Altoona ( 28 games - 38.1 IP - 3.76 ERA ). All of his appearances were in relief.
He features a fast ball that generally sits in the mid 90’s although he reportedly hit 100 early on his career. He’s been a reliever most of his career, started games early on in the DSL.
He is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this coming offseason if not protected on the 40 man roster.
Joel will join the player pool in Allentown.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Joel !
