9/3/21 : Today in the FCL (Florida Complex League )

An offensive explosion today for the FCL Phillies in a game that also served as the platform for multiple pro debuts. The noon contest was played at Bay Care ballpark.

Summary : Phillies 24 ( 20-11 ) Tigers East 4 ( 15-27 )

It was the pro debut for 2021 # 1 draft pick Andrew Painter … the first batter he faced singled up the middle but Andrew picked him off first base and struck out the next two hitters. He threw three deliveries ( Fast ball - 94.6 to 95.6 , Slider - 80 to 83.8 and Cutter - 86.9 ) totaling 17 pitches. Smooth delivery for the tall right hander, strong outing … left us wanting to see more.

The Phillies scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning … they brought 11 batters to the plate … Logan Cerny ( he can flat out fly btw ) doubled and tripled in the same inning 😳 and Hao Yu Lee got his first professional hit, a double. The Phillies had five hits and three walks in the frame.

The Phillies scored a run in the second, five in the third, four in the fourth, twice in each of the fifth and sixth innings and three in the eighth. They scolded the baseball all day which coupled with some shaky fielding by the Tigers resulted in 24 runs … there’s a mercy rule in the FCL but both clubs have to agree to it if it comes to occur before the game … today they chose to play it out.

Jordan Viars hit a very long three home run to right field in the third inning … ended up back with the alligators behind the back fence. Marcus Lee Sang hit two taters, they both landed up on the berm in right center field ( one in the 5th and one in the 8th ) and Wilfredo Flores clubbed a dinger to left field in the eighth. The team pounded out 18 hits ( see below for player highlights ).
