AIDAN MILLER AND GRIFF MCGARRY EARN ORGANIZATIONAL HONORS FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST

Reading infielder Aidan Miller and right-handed pitcher Griff McGarry have been named Phillies Minor League Hitter and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for August.

Miller, 21, slashed .348/.454/.629 (1.083 OPS), going 31-for-89 with 22 runs, 13 doubles, four home runs, 16 RBI, 13 walks and 13 stolen bases in 22 games for double-A Reading in August. Among qualified Eastern League hitters during the month, the Dunedin, Fla., native ranked tied for first in doubles and extra-base hits (17), second in on-base percentage, OPS and runs, tied for second in stolen bases, third in slugging percentage and total bases (56), tied for fourth in hits and sixth in batting average. Currently ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Phillies organization and the No. 47 prospect in baseball by MLB.com, Miller was named EL Player of the Week twice (Aug. 4-10 and Aug. 18-24). On Aug. 21 at Altoona, he hit multiple home runs in the same game for the first time in his professional career. Five days later, the right-handed batter became the first Reading player to steal at least 50 bases in a season since Jose Leiva in 1987. Miller was selected by the Phillies in the first round (27th overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft and was signed by Bo Way.

The 26-year-old McGarry made six starts for the Fightin Phils in August, going 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA (9 ER, 27.0 IP), 44 strikeouts, 14 walks and a .198 opponent’s batting average (19-96). The right-hander ranked first in the EL in strikeouts, sixth in opponent’s batting average, seventh in ERA and tied for 10th in innings pitched during the month. From Aug. 7-13, the San Francisco native became the only pitcher in the EL this season to strike out at least 11 batters in back-to-back games. McGarry pitched 6.0 scoreless innings with a season-high 12 strikeouts on Aug. 13 against Akron, earning EL Pitcher of the Week honors (Aug. 11-17). He was selected by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft and was signed by Kellan McKeon.
