A 10 AM Florida Complex League double header against the Yankees today on Roberts Field in the brutal heat and humidity we are all experiencing in many parts of the country at the moment. Also on hand are the minor league coordinators and lead development staff to conduct mini camp for the new drafted players and un-drafted free agent signees. Those that have formally signed their contracts were scheduled to get on the practice fields in the afternoon. There’s a lot of prerequisites before that happens, full physicals, multiple meetings on team protocols, etc.
We have been fortunate to chat with a few of the new fellas already, today I met fellow West Chester University alum and recent Phillies pending signee LHP Braedon Fausnaught. I graduated way back in the day in 1981 which means the new Phillies hurler wasn’t even born when I graduated 😳🤪. He said how it still felt like a dream to be joining the organization that he grew up cheering for - this year’s class of new Phillies has quite a few local ties.
Prior to agreeing with the Phillies Braedon pitched for the Trenton Thunder in the MLB Development League posting a 2-1 record and 3.38 ERA. Fausnaught went 9-3 with a 3.29 ERA in 104 innings this past season at West Chester University and helped the Golden Rams reach the Division II World Series. Fausnaught’s 130 strikeouts set a single-season program record. We are very happy for him and eager to report on his progression as after he formally signs he embarks on a pro baseball career.
