Thursday, 7/21/21  : Minor League Roundup

All full season stateside leagues are off till Thursday on All-Star break


Florida Complex League :


Phillies ( 11-17 ) Blue Jays ( 17-11 ) suspended ( rain ) - bottom of 3rd inning


@ Blue Jays Complex - Dunedin, FL


Summary :


Yemal Flores singled in the second inning, advanced to second on an error, to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Oscar Gonzalez.


The Phillies scored five runs in the third inning -  Jehisbert Sevilla & Nikau Pouaka-Grego both walked, Jordan Viars singled to score Sevilla.  Rickardo Perez singled to load the bases, Yemal Flores singled to score two runs and Oscar Gonzalez singled to score one. Flores later scored on a wild pitch.


With one out in the bottom of the third play was halted due to Florida rain.


On The Hill :


LH Scott Moss - 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s

RH Oswald Medina - 1/3 IP - retired only batter faced


At Bat :


Oscar Gonzalez & Yemal Flores both had two hits in their first two AB’s

Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red ( 20-12 ) BAL Black ( 14-20 ) - suspended - bottom of the first


Summary :


The Phillies scored three runs in the top of the first - Yemil Rosario & Santiago Torres hit back to back triples. Torres then scored on a ground out by Marco Soto. Jerffson Pena was hit by a pitch and Kliubert Avila sent him to second with a single, Fernando Hernandez singled to score him.


Rain halted the game with a runner on and no outs in the bottom of the first with right hander Pedro Reyes on the hill for the Phillies.


Phillies White ( 20- 11 ) Tigers 2 ( 13-14 ) - suspended - top of 3rd inning


Summary :


The Phillies loaded the bases in the bottom of the second on a single, bunt and hit batter - seventeen year old William Bergolla ( making his DSL and pro debut ) singled to score two runs.


The game was halted due to rain with one out in the top of the third inning with right handed Ezequiel Ventura on the mound for the Phillies.


The game was part of a re-scheduled double header with a makeup of the 7/2 contest slated - tbd when both games get re-scheduled.


All-Star Nods :


The DSL will play an All-Star game on Sunday, July 31st.  Congrats to Phillies Red manager Nerluis Martinez and Phillies Red RHP Jesus Querales and Phillies White OF Jorge Garcia for being named to participate in the event.  Garcia ( 18 yrs old ) is hitting .341 with an OBP of .435 in 30 games ( 91 AB’s ) with 6 doubles, a home run and 21 RBIs.  Querales ( 19 yrs old ) has a 0.66 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in 10 games ( 17 2/3 IP ) with 17 K’s and 6 walks - he’s converted 5 of 6 save opportunities.  Martinez is in his first season as a Manager after having served as a coach with Reading since 2019 - first as an eligible player/coach and last season as a full time coach.  Congrats to all !
