Wednesday, 8/24/22  : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 6 ( 66-53 ) Gwinnett 5 ( 58-61 )



Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park

Summary :


Taylor Motter hit a two run home run for Gwinnett in the third inning. After a walk, single and fly out a third run scored on a wild pitch.


Scott Kingery homered in the bottom of the third.  Dalton Guthrie singled and advanced to third base on a double by Bryce Harper.  Guthrie scored on a ground out by Darick Hall.


Gwinnett scored a run in the 5th inning as Pat Valaika tripled and scored on a sac fly.


Taylor Motter homered for the 2nd time in the game for Gwinnett in the 7th inning.


The Iron Pigs loaded the bases in the 9th on two singles ( Donny Sands & Will Toffey ) and a hit batter ( Jorge Bonifacio ). Chris Sharpe pinch ran for Bonifacio.  Scott Kingery singled to score a run.  Ali Castillo singled to left field to score a run but Sharpe was thrown out at the plate attempting to score for the first out of the inning.   Bryce Harper came to the dish with two outs and runners on first and second base.   He doubled to score two runs for the walk off win !


On the Hill :

LH Zach Warren - 1/3 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s - 26 pitches - 11 strikes

Bryce Harper had three hits including two doubles. Will Toffey had two hits including a double.  Scott Kingery had two hits ( single & home run ). Ali Castillo had two hits.




Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 4 ( 53-63, 24-23 ) Binghamton 3 ( 44-71, 16-30 )


Reading, PA - First Energy Stadium


Summary :


Binghamton scored two first inning runs on a walk and three singles - Carlos Cortes and Luke Ritter with RBIs.


Aldrem Corredor hit his 11th home run of the season in the 4th inning.


McCarthy Tatum homered in the 5th inning.


Binghamton scored a 6th inning run on a single, double and single.


Vito Friscia singled in the bottom of the 9th - Jonathan Guzman pinch ran for him.  Guzman made it to second on a ball which Johan Rojas reached base ( fielder’s choice ).  Kevin Vicuna reached base on a fielders choice - the Binghamton first baseman committed a fielding error allowing Guzman to score and Rojas to get to third.  Aldrem Corredor hit a sac fly to score Rojas with the game winning walk off run !


On the Hill :


LH Ethan Lindow - 6 IP, 3 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s - 81 pitches - 59 strikes

LH Taylor Lehman - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s - 23 pitches - 12 strikes

RH Billy Sullivan - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 21 pitches - 11 strikes

McCarthy Tatum & Vito Friscia each had two hits.  Tatum & Aldrem Corredor each homered. Corredor had two RBIs


South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Brooklyn 5 ( 58-58, 28-22 )  Jersey Shore 4 ( 44-72, 19-31 ) - 10 innings


Lakewood, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


Brooklyn scored a first inning run on a walk and two singles - an RBI for Stanley Consuegra.


Freylin Minyety walked in the third inning and scored on a triple by Marcus Lee Sang.  Luis Garcia hit a sac fly to score Lee Sang.


Shervyen Newton hit a two run home run for Brooklyn in the 5th inning.


Luis Garcia walked in the 6th inning, advanced on a single by Ethan Wilson and a fly out and scored when Nick Matera reached on an error.


Stanley Consuegra homered for Brooklyn in the top of the 9th inning.


Rixon Wingrove singled in the bottom of the 9th - Nicolas Torres pinch ran for him. Nick Matera walked, Torres then advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly by Casey Martin.


The game went into extra innings tied at four apiece.


Brooklyn scored the placed runner in the top of the 10th on a single & sac fly.


Jersey Shore loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th with two walks moving the placed runner to third base with one out.  The next two hitters made outs though as Brooklyn held on to win the game.


On the Hill :


LH Rafael Marcano - 5 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K’s - 83 pitches - 51 strikes

RH Brett Schulze - 1 perfect IP - struck out the side

RH Cristian Hernandez - 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 24 pitches - 15 strikes

RH Jonathan Hughes - 1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 12 pitches - 8 strikes

Ethan Wilson had two hits including a double and was intentionally walked in the 10th inning.  Marcus Lee Sang tripled.


Florida State League ( Low A ) - Tampa 3 ( 55-59, 28-20 )  Clearwater 0 ( 54-61, 19-31 )


Clearwater, FL - BayCare Ballpark


Summary :


The game started at around 8 PM after a rain delay.  Tampa scored a 1st inning run on a single, stolen base and single.


Tampa scored a 7th inning run on a single, walk, ground out and sac fly.


Brett Barrera delivered an RBI single for Tampa’s third run in the 8th inning.
