10/19/22 : Resilience

All season long there have been instances where the Phillies club has lost a “winnable” game and an outside panic seems to set in on their behalf.  Post game commentators express worry of “lost momentum” and inabilities to enable recovery.  Well if ya haven’t noticed this group has shown the capability of resilience over and again  - the ability to “flush” bad outings and rebound thereafter.

They leave San Diego with a two game split meaning the series is now a best of five affair ( if needed ) and that’s with the next three games in what’s considered a significant home field advantage in the confines of CBP.  If the real Phillies fans show out in games three thru five this weekend like they did in the NLDS it’s a huge advantage in itself - there’s no reason to believe they won’t. 😎

So from this fan’s perspective optimism hasn’t waned - game two is just a temporary set back.  There is no reason to waver, no reason to doubt, no reason to panic - no reason to believe another “dancing on my own” celebration can’t be had.

Show up, show out and play with the same confidence that has gotten them to this point - everything to win and still very able to get it !

That’s what I’m saying 🤓

Minor League Update :

Jhailyn Ortiz hit a two run home run for Surprise last night in a 6-2 Arizona Fall League win.  Johan Rojas doubled and stole his seventh base of the fall season.  Cristian Hernandez picked up the mound win pitching two innings ( 1 unearned R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 29 pitches - 22 strikes ) and Brett Schulze pitched a scoreless ninth inning ( 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 18 pitches - 10 strikes ).

Catchers Arturo DeFreitas & Anthony Quirion were announced by the Adelaide Giants as roster additions for the upcoming Australian Baseball League season.  Also on the team is former West Chester University shortstop Nick Ward - he’s a Unionville High School graduate and the son of one of my better baseball buddies and former teammates, he’s gonna do well - young man can play.

Last Condolences :

We watched Corey Phelan’s funeral service this morning - a testament to the fine young man who touched so many in a positive manner.  The Phillies had a contingent there and former Phillies Logan O’Hoppe and Nick Fanti along with current Phillies minor leaguer Jake McKenna were amongst the pallbearers.  The love that Corey gave those who knew him and the reciprocal feelings were very evident during the service.  May he Rest In Peace.
