12/19/20 : Winter League Roundup ( 12/18 games)

Venezuela :

Daniel Brito hit his 3rd home run of the season for Aguilas del Zulia and scored twice against Cardenales de Lara.

RHP Carlos Betancourt started on the mound for Aguilas and pitched three scoreless innings allowing three hits, no walks and striking out one batter. He’s now pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings over two games.

Former Phillies RHP Gustavo Armas got the win in relief for Tiburones de La Guaira in their game pitching 2 1/3 innings allowing one unearned run on one hit. We got to know Gustavo a bit while he was with the Phillies, happy to see him get his first league win.

Another former Phillie Willians Astudillo had three hits for Caribes de Anzoategui ... he’s hitting .342 for the season.

Puerto Rico :

RA12 Right Fielder Jadiel Sanchez started a triple play by catching a fly ball and then gunning down a baserunner at the plate attempting to score, the Catcher then threw to third base where the final out was recorded by the third baseman who tug out the runner attempting to advance from second base ! 😳. Jhadiel’s throw was hose worthy !

Sanchez also had two hits in the game against Caguas and scored a run.

The RA12 team, in it’s first year of play, which is built on young prospects is 0-10 on the season.

Mexico :

Darick Hall played right field in the game for Caneros de los Mochis against Sultanes de Monterrey. It’s the third defensive position in addition to 1B and LF he’s played for the Caneros. Congrats to Darick go out as well for recently completing his college education and earning a Bachelors of Arts degree from Dallas Baptist University in Kinesiology and Sociology !

LHP Erubiel Armenta threw a scoreless inning for the Caneros with one strikeout in the game. Word is that the 20 year old has a big arm and that his FB jumps on the hitters ... we look forward to seeing him throw in person hopefully this spring in Clearwater.

Australia :

The games between Sydney and Melbourne for 12/18 & 12/19 were postponed as Victoria is considering closing its borders to South Wales due to Sydney’s Northern Beaches COVID concerns. The games were scratched so that the Melbourne players could leave Sydney before being forced to quarantine.

There’s no indication as to when the games might be rescheduled.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
