Major League Camp :
Live Bullpens :
Five pitchers threw morning live bullpens on Roberts Field - Gregory Soto, Mick Abel, Francisco Morales, Billy Sullivan & Andrew Baker.
My Observations :
Gregory Soto looks good in Phillies colors - he also throws the ball hard as advertised however I believe he mixed in a few changeups today - was something definitely softer and had the hitters off balance.
Francisco Morales had a good session, was in the zone with command as well - if he can do that consistently he’s got the stuff to be a big leaguer.
Mick Abel did an up/down two inning session - power arsenal on display as well as a sweeping curve.
Grapefruit League Action :
Phillies 7 ( 6-6-1 ) Orioles 6 ( 5-7 ) @ Clearwater
Summary :
Bryson Stott led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to right field.
Baltimore scored twice in the second inning, Jordan Westburg doubled and scored on a single by John Lester. Lester’s ground ball hit to center field was missed by Brandon Marsh allowing Lewin Diaz who had reached on a walk to score. The Orioles scored two more runs in the third inning on a walk, single, sac fly and triple ( Franchy Cordero ).
Edmundo Sosa hit a two run home run in the fourth inning after which Jake Cave tripled - Aramis Garcia homered to left field to score Cave.
Edmundo Sosa led off the sixth inning with a long home run to left field. The Phillies then loaded the bases on two walks and a single. Rhys Hoskins grounded out to second base to score a run.
Robert Neustrom hit a two run home run for the Orioles in the seventh inning.
At the Plate : 8 H, 3 BB, 13 K’s
Edmundo Sosa had a day - two home runs in two AB’s with three RBIs. Jake Cave went two for two with a triple and single, he’s now hitting .474 on the spring in 19 AB’s with an OPS of 1.577. Bryson Stott was 2 for 3 with a home run. Aramis Garcia went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Defensive Gems :
Jake Cave made a diving catch in left field on a sinking liner. Catcher Max McDowell was quick to hop on a ball caromed off the leg of pitcher McKinley Moore in the ninth inning and then threw a bullet to first base to record the last out of the game 👏.
