3/9/25 : Today in Spring Training

Eighth day for minor league Spring Training Camp. Fifteenth Grapefruit League game of the season.

Grapefruit League Game Fifteen  - Phillies 12 Orioles 2 (Clearwater)

Summary :

Baltimore scored a run in the second inning on a double, fly out and sacrifice fly.

Edmundo Sosa homered to lead off the third inning. Otto Kemp singled, Oscar Mercado and Trea Turner walked. Bryce Harper singled to score two runs.

Two doubles scored a run for the Orioles in the fifth inning.

Three walks loaded the bases for the Phillies in the sixth - a wild pitch and error by the catcher allowed two runners to score on the same play! Another wild pitch scored a third run.

Cal Stevenson walked in the seventh and scored on an absolute rocket of a home run by Aroon Escobar in his first ever Grapefruit League AB 👀💣👏.

Aidan Miller doubled in the 8th inning for his first Grapefruit League hit, he went to third on a wild pitch. Matt Kroon walked. Keaton Anthony hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Miller. Luis Verdugo walked, Christian Arroyo singled to scored a run. Garrett Stubbs doubled to score two more.

At the Plate : 12 R, 8 H, 11 BB, 4 K’s

Edmundo Sosa doubled and homered.  Garrett Stubbs doubled. Aroon Escobar hit a two run home run. Stubbs, Escobar and Bryce Harper each had two RBIs.

LH Ranger Suarez - 3 IP - 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 38 pitches - 27 strikes - was very good

RH Joe Ross - 1.2 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 20 pitches - 15 strikes

RH Jose Cuas - 1/3 IP - retired only batter he faced - K - 5 pitches - 3 strikes

LH Jose Alvarado - 1 perfect IP - 2 K’s - 12 pitches - 9 strikes

RH Jordan Romano - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 14 pitches - 7 strikes

RH Orion Kerkering - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 10 pitches - 8 strikes

RH John McMillon - 1 perfect IP - 2 groundouts, 1 pop up - 10 pitches - 6 strikes

Notes:

Aroon Escobar had a day in his Grapefruit League debut - he entered as a pinch runner and in an all out hustle play scored on wild pitch. In his first inning in the field he made a diving stop on a grounder in the hole, turned and threw a beebee to shortstop Aidan Miller covering second base who then completed a double play with a throw to first base. In Aroon’s first AB he turned on the first pitch thrown to him and hit an absolute laser onto the left field concourse for a two run homer!  I’ve been saying for awhile he has a chance to be very special - today he showed to ya all what those of us who troll the backfields saw last summer!
