The Phillies 40 man roster has 17 position players listed on it however three are currently on the Injured List and Scott Kingery is on the conclusion protocol list leaving them with a four man bench on the active roster. Minor league OF Mickey Moniak is the only current option on the 40 man roster if another active roster move is required.
The AAA roster at Lehigh Valley has 12 position players listed however INF CJ Chatham was hit by a pitch in Syracuse and hasn’t played since and UTL Nick Williams is in Florida in camp with Team USA preparing for the Olympic qualifying tournament. If Chatham isn‘t available they have 10 players to chose from at present. The DH is in use for the series with Worcester so they will have one healthy reserve this evening ... the backup catcher.
The AA roster at Reading has 14 position players listed however two are on the injured list and OF Jorge Bonifacio was just signed ... I’m not sure he’s even in Reading with the team. With him they have 12 ... without 11. There is no DH in use in this week’s series with Richmond ...
At High A Jersey Shore there are 13 position players on the roster however INF Chris Cornelius is on the IL leaving them with 12 active players. They use the DH leaving them with three players on the bench including the backup catcher.
At Low A Clearwater there are 12 active position players listed. They use the DH so only three players are available off the bench and one is the reserve catcher.
Extended Spring training options may need to be deployed again soon ... to date five position players have been promoted from XST camp and four pitchers.
It takes a lot of maneuvering to get thru a season ... we are only three weeks in and the roster margins are already thin ... the organization already has 16 pitchers listed on the 60 day DL 🤦♂️
