The Phillies protected 37 players from the draft leaving one spot open.
They made one selection.
RHP Matt Seelinger - SF Giants - AA roster - was the 28th round draft choice of the Pirates in the 2017 draft out of SUNY Farmingdale. He was 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.51 WHIP at Richmond in 2021 in 36 games ( 41 IP ) with 64 K’s and 31 walks.
He’s been traded twice in his career - once in 2018 to the Rays and again in 2019 to the Giants. Matt is from Long Island, NY which is an area the Phillies have selected quite a few players from in the regular draft and as amateur free agents.
He reportedly has a low to mid-90s fastball and a big break curveball.
There were no Phillies minor league players selected in the draft.
