12/22/2020 : Management Structure


Today President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski announced three promotions - see the story ... https://www.philliesbaseballfan.com/post/12-22-2020-phillies-to-name-sam-fuld-as-next-general-manager


During the media zoom conference to announce the promotions Mr. Dombrowski stated that the current members of the management team would remain with their present duties. He also said that former GM Matt Klentak is not part of the day to day activities of baseball operations but is available for consultation. Klentak remains on the team payroll till his contract expires in 2022.

As a comparison the following would seemingly be the now updated baseball operations structure of the Phillies.


Dave Dombrowski - President of Baseball Operations : responsible for all baseball operations matters. He will be the decision maker on all transactions.


Sam Fuld - General Manager : He will assist Mr. Dombrowski directly with all of the day-to-day operations of the Major League team, as well as player development and player acquisitions.


Jorge Velandia - Assistant General Manager : He will assist with all facets of Baseball Operations, with a focus on working with the Major League team, player development, and all of the scouting departments.


Brian Minnitti - Assistant General Manager : oversees player development along with amateur and international scouting.


Ned Rice - Assistant General Manager : helps map out strategy of roster management, oversees analytics and the medical department and assists in player contracts and negotiations, transactions, salary arbitration and rules compliance .


Scott Proefrock - Assistant General Manager : interprets the major league rules and basic agreement with the MLB Players Association and assists in contract negotiations, salary arbitration and rules compliance while overseeing the home and visiting clubhouse staffs .


Terry Ryan - Special Assistant to the General Manager : will evaluate the minor league system, provide professional and special assignment scouting, and offer a valued voice on player acquisitions.


Pete Mackanin has vacated his role as Special Assistant to the General Manager. Jorge Velandia’s previous role as Special Assistant to the General Manager has also been at least temporarily vacated.


Sam Fuld’s prior role as Director - Integrative Baseball Performance is now at least temporarily vacant as is Terry Ryan’s prior role as Special Assignment Scout.


Bart Braun was a previous Special Assistant to the General Manager ... he passed away in July ... the position wasn’t filled.

The net effect is that no additional head count was added in this front office restructuring.
